If you/your project is affected by DigitalOcean stopping their OSS credits program, please shoot me a DM immediately. Might be able to help. Boosts for visibility would be appreciated.

The paint.net thing is actually so sad to me. I understand many of the valid concerns with AI, but dogpiling and harassing a freeware developer isn't the way to advocate against AI.

It's an extension of open source entitlement syndrome. (I know pdn is not OSS, but I'm talking in the general.)

I understand there's likely no real strategy to this besides anger. However, I wish the anti-AI movement would organize and pursue their goals in a more productive form, because there is a genuine need for productive pushback and debate against AI booster types.

At best you'll be ignored, at worst you'll turn people against your cause. This isn't an isolated incident either, I've seen this type of thing on many platforms (gh, twitter, fedi, bsky) and for all kinds of projects.

There's an irony to this, where maintainers of overlooked, but important free software projects turn to AI tools due to lack of funding/contributions. However, once consumers notice AI is being used, they finally give attention to the project/maintainers... but to attack them.

the richest/most powerful guy you know in tech is possibly posting from a reddit sockpuppet account this is based on a true personal experience from just now

going to be in the Bay Area until Monday, let me know if you’d like to meet up, and I’ll check my schedule :p

Here’s our semi-regular thank you to all of our sponsors! Maintaining Ultramarine and Terra is hard work. If you rely on Terra or use Ultramarine as a daily driver, please consider throwing a few dollars our way to help us stay independent and community funded. Links 🔽

so, who's building a federated chat protocol that actually works, and do they want our money?

We have a survey relating to servers, (self-)hosting, and infrastructure related to a potential future Fyra project. If you are currently self-hosting or use hosting/colocation services, we would appreciate it if you took some time to take it. Thanks! forms.gle/XeXmeEhE5JgM...

one of the weirder things about living in California is walking into a cafe and overhearing people talking about AI, LLMs, and vibe coding

the devaluation of non-code contributions in OSS is a real problem that leaves the whole space vulnerable
