Have you noticed the impact of rising global food insecurity? To address this growing crisis, GBGM, UMCOR and GBHEM have granted over $5.6 million through our This Moment Matters initiative over the past year to ministries and organizations faithfully responding to God's call to "feed the hungry."

From local church pantries and school campus distributions, to annual conference initiatives and episcopal area agriculture projects, these funds put food in the hands of people in need across contexts, communities, and countries, meeting them where they are with a tangible sign of hope.

Last weekend, Hurricane Isaias made landfall as a powerful Category 2 storm, leaving a trail of destruction across the Southeast.⬇️

On August 26, the world stood in solidarity with communities along the Nepal-Tibet border after a powerful and unprecedented flash flood caused catastrophic destruction...⬇️

Since late August, UMCOR has sent nearly $90k in relief funds to partners on the ground who are providing essential food and non-food items to thousands of flood-impacted families and households along the Nepal-Tibet border.

On August 15, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake and tsunami struck Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, causing the deaths of at least 135 people, injuring 1,723 others, and damaging approximately 98,900 homes.

In response to this disaster, UMCOR has awarded a solidarity grant to ACT Alliance member, YAKKUM Emergency Unit (YEU). The grant will support YEU’s response efforts in Manggarai and East Manggarai and will strengthen locally led response efforts that are addressing ongoing humanitarian needs.

Funds from UMCOR awarded to the California-Pacific Annual Conference are providing immediate relief and aid to those in need through debris removal, the distribution of supplies, and food and water provisions.

Over the past week, people across the Midwest U.S. have been impacted by historic flash flooding and severe storms. UMCOR is responding to the needs of these individuals and families through solidarity grant support to the West Ohio and Indiana annual conferences. ⬇️

These grants will amplify their relief efforts as they distribute supplies and support local churches preparing and distributing food and helping residents with flood clean-up.

Introducing the new UMC Solar and Battery Pilot Program!☀️ Designed to help churches serving vulnerable communities across the U.S. install solar and/or battery systems, this GBGM and UMCOR program will build resilience, reduce emissions and energy costs, and keep the doors of their ministries open.

A solidarity grant to the CMC will provide food and essential household items to families in Cali directly impacted by the earthquake. UMCOR's support will expand their reach and help them cover the needs of as many survivors as possible in the region.
