The default /dev/fb0 MiSTer in theory can deliver 60fps. However it doesn't provide the signals to a) ensure true vsync frame pacing and b) guaranteed way to avoid screen tearing. So to the best of my knowledge Magik is the first Mister front end that has tear free console quality frame delivery.

Now running close to a locked 60fps and with better visual fidelity. To get this performance you need to run the UI in rgb565. But then need liberal use of dithering to stop horrible colour banding #MisterFPGA

Still crude and early. But a million miles on from a couple of months ago. No GPU. ARM CPU that was cutting edge in 2007. But it’s surprising what you can get running on a MisterFPGA.

Back in June vs today. It’s interesting that you can have a half baked insight into what could work, but then it takes weeks to get anywhere half decent.

Another test of #Zaparoo Frontend with the MiSTer Magik backend. I think I’m happy with this now, everything I wanted works, just some specific animations to make the UI easier to understand and feel faster. This will be parked until after a new update of the old Qt backend, then we can migrate

Turns out there were quite some issues in the screensaver. It will be significantly smoother in the next update. I also slowed it down by 25% to make it feel a bit calmer.
