Ran a one shot of Clockworld this weekend to learn the system off mic. The quick takeaways: Use a GM screen/cheatsheet. There’s a lot to reference! Combat is quick and brutal and I love it Players tactically readying actions in combat will melt your bandits if you let them Can’t wait to record!

I think I might really love gimmicks. Whether that’s the setting or the mechanics of a system. The Time We Have was fun: everything comes from a deck of cards. Brindlewood has the theorize move. Ten Candles has… ten candles. Are there any other really notable gimmicks out there? Tarot cards?

I’m always mulling over what I want to try and run next. I have some guests in mind who I think would love a sports themed TTRPG. I’ve narrowed it down to Varsity and Fight With Spirit. Which sports system resonates most with you? Or is there an even better third option that has slipped me by?

This is literally why we decided to make the podcast. There are so many cool systems and rule sets out there. While Pathfinder and D&D introduced a huge swathe of people to TTRPGs(me too!), branching out and finding other cool ones and neat gimmicks has been an amazing journey so far.

Trying to develop an actual long term strategy for lineups and systems almost becomes heartbreaking when you realize that at the current rate, you’ll get through maybe one per quarter. So many cool systems! So little time! …no way am I switching to weekly releases until I have an editor…
