Insinuating that US aid for weapons in Israel is preventing health care at home is wrong. I don't want American money to be used to violate human rights. That's an argument that I respect and support. I don't respect arguments that make up false comparisons www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

Thank you, 60 Minutes, for giving attention to this important issue:
With Israel’s election two weeks away, Lesley Stahl travels to the West Bank, where militant Israeli settlers have carried out violent attacks against the Palestinians, often with impunity. The Israeli government is showing an unwillingness to crack down on the violence. Tonight on 60 Minutes.

The term "criminal justice reform" is politically loaded. Nationally, many efforts have halted. But that's just one of many places where new strategies can emerge. In @justsecurity.org, @uofer.bsky.social tracks recent state reforms, from eliminating court fees to adding second look legislation.
Important new report from @sentencingproject.bsky.social on reentry, based on interviews with 33 people who returned home after long-term imprisonment, having been locked away from 20 to 43 years, and after being home for as little as 3 months up to roughly 3.5 years at the time of their interview:

Yeah, I've been making the federalism point for a year, including the fact that we have about 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the US, and the president has no control over about 17,900 of them.
The extent of our federalism was the one thing that "we are Germany in the 1930s" takes have struck me as never engaging with enough. Whatever its legal protections, federalism's single biggest protection has been one of capacity: the Feds are REALLY thinly staffed.
