Racist Fucking Know-nothing

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

The unique heartbreak of learning your obscure celebrity crush, whom you thought was single, just got married.

Rest in Peace, Walter, as you shed this moral wessel

Jesse Thorn@jessethorn.bsky.social

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Some shows go years between seasons. Meanwhile SLOW HORSES has the next one in the can before the current one is even finished airing.

I've always found it weird that donations are only tax-deductible if you're itemizing, and aren't exempt from that requirement. It basically says that the average person shouldn't benefit from their charity; it's a privilege afforded only to a select few (usually the rich).

Saw a billboard for this on my drive home just now and was immediately thrown into a massive nostalgia k-hole. I was transported back to 1997, when I saw them open for the Lemonheads at the 9:30 Club in DC, on my first date with my college girlfriend. It was a long drive home.

People like Melvinβ€”who think the number of bots, children, and idiots that view your pointless "content" somehow gives you cultural or societal relevanceβ€”worry me

I like to come to movies way early and read in my seat for a good half hour before it starts. Usually, I'm the only one in the theater for a good while. Usually. Today, there is one other person in the theater with me. Seated right beside me. No one else in the place. Just us. Side by side.

Of everything I'm going to regret not being able to see, I think it's the apoplectic rage of countless neckbeards over Shepherd being replaced by an Asian (Simu Liu!!) lead

Can confirm that this is a real trailer of the Mass Effect game that BioWare was developing up until its closure yesterday www.reddit.com/r/masseffect...

Democratic candidates need to make this a bigger talking point

Adam Bonica@adambonica.bsky.social

Mega-donors giving $1M+ make up 54% of GOP fundraising so far this cycle. It’s not just billionaires lining up for Trump’s open air auction of federal policy and contracts. The GOP also spammed and grifted its own small-dollar base into oblivion.

Phone rings. Unknown New York number. Curious, I answer. "Hello?" And old Jewish man replies, "Am I speaking to Mr. Ferny?" "Sorry, wrong number." "Okay." and he hangs up. Either I just got my first, actual, genuine, bonafide wrong number in years, or spam bots are getting REAL sophisticated.

I sometimes wonder what line Meta would need to cross to get people to actually stop using their products

Yes, Slow Horses is an amazing show that has yet to miss, but an even bigger flex is getting Mick Fucking Jagger to write your theme song.

"English profrishuncy" The writers have gotten so lazy for America's finale season.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

JD Vance: "We made English profeishhincy mandatory"

"Well if it isn't the consequences of my actions," says an entire generation of toxic parents

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

One good thing about family gatherings: sharing heirloom photos. Here is my great-grandmother, circa 1908. Isn't she pretty?

Extended family gatherings are an exercise in smiling politely when people keep telling you to "Just use AI..." for everything (editing photos, practicing Spanish, planning trips, etc) and fighting the urge to go on a rambling, inflamed anti-AI screed.

Countdown to Conservatives lionizing Tommy and turning him into the next Joe the Plumber in 3 ... 2 ...

Dude slunked the slunkiest slunk I ever saw slunked.

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

A senator

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

I wonder how many people are gonna drive their Teslas off cliffs, relying on the "jets" for a soft landing, the same way Cybertruck owners keep driving into lakes.

These are Henson Creature Shop creations and you cannot convince me otherwise

I have on more than one occasion been mistaken for the youngest of my siblings, despite being nine years older than one of them. It's not because of my youthful looks, it's because I have big Youngest Kid Energy.

Californians, a reminder

Here's a quick reference sheet of the props and who endorses what. Should make things simple for folks.

Confession: I never played Ocarina I was living in the Philippines when it came out, and N64s were super rare. We were a PlayStation country. By the time I moved back to the States and had money for a console, the GameCube was out.

Zelda Universe@zeldauniverse.bsky.social

How old were you when Ocarina of Time came out on the Nintendo 64? And how old are you now with the remake releasing on November 5th?

I was actually still in the States when the N64 itself first released in '96, but we were poor college students who just had a second-hand SNES in our off-campus house. That said, we probably spent more hours in Super Bomberman free-for-alls than we ever would've in Goldeneye.

That the race is still so close is testament to how fucked up partisanship has gotten in this country. Almost half of voters still support Paxton, even after the countless scandals, and partying with felons, and all of that, because he's "their guy." Absolutely gobsmacking.

James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for Texas' Senate seat, addressed the nuances of a voter's question about rising antisemitism and his stance on Israel. Stream the CNN & Jubilee Town Hall with James Talarico now on CNN with an All Access subscription: https://cnn.it/4yk8fdu

Translation: "We'll take your money and use it to fund people who would rather see you dead. ☺️" Don't care how good the food is, you'll never see me eat at a Chick-fil-A.

Is there a word for when you exhale in a way that flaps your lips like a horse? It's not a whinny or neigh.

So many takes on why some folks use lowercase. For me it's just when I'm on a keyboard and can't be bothered to reach for the Shift key.

WIRED@wired.com

today, lowercase can be clickbait, or a strategy of gen z-ers to read as less intense. it can also be a status symbol, or a way to signal human authorship. finally, pockets of the internet still see lowercase as somehow antiestablishment.
