I’m sure some neuroscientist would have something to say about this but I find it fascinating that when the part of my brain that is involved when I am sketching/studying animal reference for artwork gets tired I can go to the drafting table to paint/draw and that part of my brain is somehow fresh.

Example: getting a feel for the base animal structures for my kaiju board game then getting to work on a family portrait I have been commissioned for. The feeling of focus is entirely different for learning and experimentation vs execution and ongoing analysis. So interesting.

The more I paint, the more I realize that the struggle is not in knowing what to paint or where to start. The real trick is in knowing when to stop. For me as an artist the only thing more agonizing than finishing a painting is the realization that I was done 10 strokes ago #painting #illustration

I just added the tiered thank you gifts to the Patreon page for my illustrations. The initial set of gifts would be of the Halloween themed variety. In the future, as more of my artwork is digitized, I will be able to make more of the other artwork and patrons will have more choices.

Also, i do not mean to flood anyone’s feed with my stuff. I am trying to get this business thing running and BlueSky is the only social media app that I use. I’m making it up as i go and want to see what people are going to respond to. Thanks! #illustration

Had a slow open house last week. Need to work on my stuff to get people across the threshold from "Oh, you're good at this" to reaching for the artwork and prints to take it home with them. I know that I still have work to do to get where I want to be with my skillset. #Illustration #Illustrator

AI generated art is almost analogous to the grand algorithm that music execs began using to assess the value of an album prerelease. The music algorithm measures a product for commercial viability. AI art is created by an algorithm in pursuit of commercial viability.

Start with an idea. Poke it. Coax it into being. Build it out and explore it. See how deep that rabbit hole goes. And when the idea stops yielding new fruit, go back and look for the wins. There will be ideas there that need more attention. Build those out and explore them too.

When you are done, you might not realize it at first. But finding the stopping point a few days late is better than thinking you found it a few days early. The greatest victory of artistic creation is in knowing when the project is done and letting it be.

Show me the struggles of the creative process! Let me see the brush strokes, the rough sketches, and the crumpled up sheets of paper. There is real beauty in the spilled ink, pencil shavings, loose marks, and especially in the prying of a nebulous concept from the aether.

Ultimately the greatest victory of these creative endeavors is not in simply having a product to sell. This is thinly veiled consumerism - the foundation of the house that the music formula and AI art form the walls of. Let there be more purpose to your work than simply generating content.

the nuances found in art created by hand are missing. The intentionality is corrupted. The AI generated image, in every real sense, is a lie. The promptee may feel that the final image is good enough, maybe they feel their skills as an artist do not merit the time/effort that would go into making-

a drawing, painting, sculpture, etc., or that others would not want to look at it because of a lack of technical skill. For those who feel this way, please listen! NOTHING could be further from reality. No artist worth their varnish would prefer an AI image over one created by hand.

So they are not exactly the same, but they are walls in the same building. The music algorithm looks at music, which may have been made with pure artistic intentions, and determines whether it is likely to sell well enough to put advertising dollars into. The AI art, meanwhile…

may have been generated with a thought provoking and personally emotional prompt, but the AI working through the prompt is, in a best case scenario, guessing at the intentions of the prompter. The intention of the prompt author is diluted, and while a successful image may be produced,…

Jeff Bezos never wanted this cartoon to become public. He killed it, and as a result, pulitzer prize editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes quit. Make sure everyone sees this cartoon.

Xmas parties catching up with acquaintances. “What’s new? I’m designing a board game from the ground up. It’s humanity vs mutating Kaiju on a hex map but with asymmetrical resource systems and hidden betrayal mechanics. Starting playtesting and illustration next month. … “So, how are the kids?” FML

@ Solo board game inventors. How do you go about getting your game prototypes made when you just need a handful to send out for testing. I am looking at cards at this point. Later on I will need boards, chits, cards, and custom dice, with small batch 3d printing for miniatures. Anyone do all that?

I am an artist and illustrator by training. Currently knee deep in creating a board game for the first time. Feature creep is real, so I find myself jotting things down as ideas to iterate on later. Right now I have a phrase i cannot shelve; “Asynchronous resource generation.” This one is going in.
