The new WH flack, Katie Zacharia... My God! She went from 0-to- sycophantic Geosynchronous Orbit in a *blink*! Seriously, she makes Karoline Leavitt look like Hypatia of Alexandria! This isn't a press briefing, it's just her praising Trump. Word in DC: "Who'da thought we'd miss Sean Spicer..."

A word about voting. Not as a duty or right as Americans, but as crucial piece of our Republic. In '64, Malcolm X spoke of “the ballot or the bullet” as a warning. He was speaking about the denial of African-American participation in American liberal democracy... 1/x

Those are not rhetorical questions... there are real answers that we, as Americans, need to come up with. As for me, I know that my vote is only one in n-millions nationally, but its joining those million of other voices that speaks the loudest about choosing the ballot. 4/x

The alternative is something *very* earnestly to prevent. Call it Na Trioblóidí, Anni di Piombo, The Cultural Revolution... the insanity and violence possible following a final breakdown and failure of the American electoral system is a consummation devoutly to be avoided. 5/fin

His warning - as stark as it was then - sounds even louder today. The message simple: it's either the ballot or the bullet, and when the one fails, the other becomes almost inevitable. *That* is why, despite the opacity of the process and the ambiguity of the results, that mass participation in 2/x

electoral process is a bulwark, a defense, against forces of chaotic-nihilism that seems to have infected large swaths of our polity. We now face a moment of bleak challenges to our citizenship where we are being asked the blunt question: what is our democracy worth? Of what stuff is it made? 3/x

Just can't shake this... earlier today on MSN a political consultant was openly suggesting that our legal system is not up to the current moment regarding voting. His suggestion: Force. "We have State National Guards, police, sheriffs... real tools to fight this" 1/2

He didn't quite go "there," but the message was clear: it's time to meet force with force to secure voting from the federal interference. If this is *really* where we are, then all we need to be *very* clear eyed about what happens next. This shit is getting real. Time to act like it. 2/2

Boosting the signal for the LBC!

@indivisiblelb.bsky.social There is a small but dedicated group of protestors on the corner of Willow and Cherry every Saturday from 10 to 12 noon. I’d like to see more of the citizens of my beloved Long Beach speaking up for Democracy. Come and join us!

Calling a shot here... SCOTUS releases the Trump v. Barbara birthright citizenship decision next Thursday, right before the long weekend. I think it augurs for the nullification of a large piece of the XIVth Amendment.

Yeah... that timing didn't work out real well either... SCOTUS must really planning to uncork one before they leave for summer vacation.

Sitting here watching Marco Rubio testify in the Senate... only thing I can think is: "Holy God, this job's aged him. He looks like he's aged about a decade in the last 12 months..."

Just a quick reminder... If you've ever wondered what you would have done had you lived through the rise of fascism in 1933 Germany... You're doing it *right* *now.*

Just in case anyone wonders whether journalists really ever get it right... here is a Rolling Stone piece from about 6 months ago...

Might be pay-walled, so here's the nut: Buckle up... "It’s only going to get worse. "The president and his top government appointees are publicly stressing that this will not end with D.C. and L.A., that other military options are very much on the table." www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Hakeem Jeffries@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social

Kristi Noem is a stone-cold liar who has zero credibility. There is nothing to suggest the shooting of an unarmed woman in Minneapolis was justified. This heinous killing must be criminally investigated to the full extent of the law.

Texas troops in Illinois... There's a very specific point in sending Guard troops from Confederate states to Blue northern cities... They don't consider the people in those cities to really be "American;" will be much more comfortable with violence against civilians. It's #HillbillyReconquista...

To everyone on about the #ANTIFA remarks from President Shit4Brains, now would be a good time to review the bidding by reading up on Soviet Criminal Code, Article 70…

#LBC we gonna rise up!

Trump thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings and we won’t back down to chaos, cruelty, and corruption. We’re taking to the streets again on October 18 to say NO KINGS. Make a plan to do your part to turn this into the largest show of defiance against Trump’s regime yet. 👇
