The guy who came up with but failed to monetize "danger flutes." I’m a fan of the Senators from Ottawa.

My prescription for the interminable and seemingly irreconcilable priorities of rural, suburban, and urban districts? Buy them off. Detailed promises for each district of things they’ll get they otherwise wouldn’t in exchange for funding downtown services, based on submissions from constituents

I hate to say I told you so, but running on “I’m going to raise taxes” is really dumb, even if it’s true that you’re going to need to do it. Ottawa basically didn’t even have anyone realistic on the left running.

It looks like a broad swath of Ontario towns elected new mayors and Toronto became more progressive, and in that context, with massively unpopular conservative provincial government, Ottawa re-elected its conservative mayor by 11 points over the only credible challenger :/

If McDavid finishes the season with 252 points as currently projected he should give at least one of them to Burakovsky.

There are many provinces in Canada that make a person say, “I wonder what the fuck those people are doing,” and BC is one of them.

Looking forward to seeing a Green municipal government in Vancouver negotiate with a Conservative provincial majority and a Liberal federal majority on a pipeline. Should be nice and orderly.

There’s no better commercial to follow the TSN radio broadcast of a Sens win than “Looking to patent your invention idea?” I would give anything to see a list of the inventions submitted by drunk Sens fans after a win.

I’m pretty sure if I was allowed to open a St. Hubert in the San Francisco Bay Area I could make about 200 million dollars.

On one hand, the Rangers color guy keeps saying “Jake Anderson,” but on the other hand, he also keeps saying “keeps his head on a swizzle.”

I gotta admit, Leiper is making a race of this thing in Ottawa, on a platform of raising taxes I thought was unelectable. I’ll happily eat crow if I was wrong. Polling in municipal races isn’t terribly high quality, but I could see motivated turnout from urban districts creating an upset.

I moved 10 years ago but visit frequently and find it a fascinating mix of major infrastructure upgrades and worsening street conditions. I used to live on Somerset and Kent and enjoyed Bank St nightlife, which is now all gone. I could see a 2026 version of 24 year old me getting motivated.

Congratulations to Connor Hellebuyck on being traded from obvious loser team Winnipeg Jets (11 points without him in the lineup) to clear contender New Jersey (12 points and just traded a top six center to get him)

I assume Larkin is about to be traded to New Jersey, and if between the two of them they don’t transform that team into a contender, they’re gonna look like ding-a-lings

I wasn’t able to watch the game but I see Sens outshot the Sharks 43-28 and lost 6-2, so I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Ersson Ersson’d

You really got ask your goalie coach when he says he can make a guy good who’s never been good before why exactly he thinks all those other goalie coaches are bad.

Sens have this Sharks game tonight then two days off then an 11 day road trip. Super curious if Ullmark travels with the team, and if he doesn’t uhhhhhhh how does this go

I don’t know about you guys, but in this house, the red is revved. Red wine that is!!! Ahahahahahahahaha please Ullmark be ok

Kind of wild how the team looks a lot better with a top-10 NHL defenseman in the lineup. I guess that’s the mystery of hockey for you.

“We need something that captures the epic tension and hard feelings of this matchup.” *arena DJ plays Scat Man* “…perfect”

Re: Brady, I honestly think what he did - informing his team with plenty of notice that he wasn’t going to re-sign - is totally different from what Larkin or Hellebuyck did, demanding a trade soon after signing a big extension, wanting the benefits of a contract without the obligations.

I obviously want the Sens to beat the hell out of a division rival at every opportunity, but this isn’t a Heatley situation, and I don’t feel betrayed by the guy. And teams will learn, just like they did with drafting players who have KHL offers, to risk adjust for brothers in the NHL.

I think the Sens should show a nice lil’ video tribute on Wednesday and move on. From Thursday on, pretend he doesn’t even exist. He’s just another team’s player.

Can’t help but feel like there’s a connection between the Senators powerplay being 28th in the league and Cozens going ice cold.

Man, the Sens are great on the cycle, but we could use a finisher or two. It’s a lot of running laps around the perimeter, dominating possession, and no shots on net to show for it. We really are Carolina from 2-3 years ago.

Small detail, but Zub makes a 135ft pass banked off the boards to Foegele, not exactly a playmaker, who passes it on his backhand to Greig, not a scorer, who goes top shelf, and the three of them don’t make a big deal out of it at all. Taps on the helmet, back to the bench, let’s go get another.

I don’t think this stuff matters to me, that it’s Don Cherry “act like you been there” repressed crap, but when it happens I gotta admit it’s notable and confidence inspiring.

When are we going to learn that there's no appeasing idealogues. Their minds can't be changed. There's no world in which you give them a fair hearing, they lose, and they commit to a path of self-reflection and moderation. They just fall deeper into conspiracy theory and gamesmanship and try again.

A toddler is a portal into the past through which ancient diseases once thought eradicated travel so that they can live in your home. A cute portal, but a portal.

One of the funniest things an NHL coach can do is rip his players in the media for being unprepared and unmotivated. You know, given the role of coaches in preparing and motivating their players.

This is really good. I’ve been a big whiner about how most hockey journalism is just endlessly recapping things we already know and competing for who can have the strongest opinions. I don’t see many articles that take that next step of investigating. Good stuff.

The Senators acknowledged that they made a misstep with their backup goaltending last year. Here's my latest for @thehockeynews.bsky.social on the process-driven Senators' belief in tonight's starter, Sam Ersson. thehockeynews.com/nhl/ottawa-s...

I’m reminded of that year (I think it was the Boucher draft) when the Sens took nearly every player ahead of where they were projected to go, and most of what I read about it was simply handing out an F grade and moving on as opposed to exploring if there was something interesting happening there.
