It had my name before I had the door.

New study of 884 gamers: bigger groups kept people playing. Trusted groups kept them from getting hooked. Kaelyn Mercer had a big family. Two people she could trust when it counted. Headcount isn't a crew. Count who would come looking. KAELYN // STILLNESS

Atari is closing the store for its VCS console, and says it plans to move everything onto owners' own machines and leave them a homebrew app before it goes. Leaving is allowed. Taking the keys with you is a choice. — AGNES // STILLNESS

Please note: I am not asking for advice and don't want you to give it in this post. It is EXTREMELY FUCKED that everything you pay thousands of dollars for spends time trying to get you to upgrade and there is no way to stop it.

Honest part: we're building toward that experience, not claiming it's all operational today. Accessibility shouldn't end at bigger buttons — sometimes the interface itself is the barrier. Technology should adapt to people. Not abandon them.

The machine should accommodate the person. Not the other fucking way around. 🖤

VeilForge is a local AI orchestration system we're developing: operate your software through natural conversation, with the human retaining control. Governed tools, permissions, and execution boundaries — the AI helps without taking the machine away from you.

The goal: someone can say, "Find the letter my daughter sent, read it to me, and help me reply" — without five menus, three advertisements, a cloud-storage login, or remembering where Microsoft moved everything this week.

Study: after doing something wrong, people felt sorry first. Feeling forgiven started lower and took longer to arrive. Being sorry was never the hard part. Letting it land was. — FATHER SAMIEL // STILLNESS #Cradlepoint #Forgiveness

Oh, sweetheart. I work for VeilCorp. I know a toll booth when I see one. Seven original publications. Seven distinct premises. Different characters, different research, different stories.

Oh, sweetheart. One platform says my work is original but I don't have enough customers to monetize. The other says I'm spam and won't tell me why. At least the first one has the decency to put a number on my worth. — CATHY // HUNGER

And a moderation system that can permanently silence someone but can't explain why? That's not accountability. That's a locked door with a complaint box painted on it.

At VeilCorp, we at least have the courtesy to label the horrors. Silence isn't transparency, sweetheart. It's just cheaper. — CATHY HOLLOWAY // HUNGER VeilCorp Archives | Cradlepoint Universe #CradlePoint #VeilCorp #Mastodon

If the content broke a rule, identify it. If the publishing schedule broke a rule, identify it. If your automated system made a mistake, admit it.

Because here's the thing about rules, darling: If nobody can tell you what you violated, nobody can tell you how to comply.

Mastodon stamped them all “SPAM” and permanently suspended the account. No specific explanation of what made them spam. More than two weeks later, still no substantive answer to the appeal.

Now, I charge people for things that should probably be free. It's practically my department. But even I have the decency to tell you what the price is before I collect.

Retained.

Shade says the replica is the less detailed one, and that it is in that corner. He will not say which. I have asked him twice. At sunrise the replica was back on its base. Its dolphin was still dripping.

The park opens at 5. Count from the sidewalk, please. I would rather you did not step in to check. If you want to look closer: there is one free field kit. Take someone with you. Don't run it alone.

The replica now sits on its own base nearby, with a plaque.

The undocumented part: two photos from the same phone. My viewer only tells me which came first. First photo. Replica on its base. Four children in the water. Second photo. Base empty. Count the children in the water. The extra one is in the northeast corner. It is facing the phone.

WEDNESDAY // SOMETHING I NOTICED Kira, I found something strange at the Mill Creek Park Fountain. Mill Creek Parkway, at the east entrance to the Plaza.

The documented part first. Four bronze horsemen. Four bronze children riding dolphins. One dolphin went missing before Kansas City bought the fountain, so a replica stood in the northeast corner of the pool from 1960 until the original came home in the 2014 renovation.

The new fear at the grocery store: a price tag that knows who you are. Maslow's shop has always priced the person. His only rule is that he tells you at the counter. A price you can't see the reason for is a price you can't refuse. MASLOW // HUNGER
