Five kids on our way home: what is this glowing cube

Sarah Rees Brennan@sarahreesbrennan.bsky.social

me doing an impromptu skit of Animorphs: Veronica you’re 5 kids on your way home @veronicarothbooks.com, a game angel who also quotes Agamemnon: ok we’re on our way me, smiling beatifically: and AYE am a crash-landing spaceship NYOOM #booksky

perhaps the best illustration of my post-tour mental state is that yesterday for dinner I ate some rotisserie chicken I pulled directly from the bones while the thing was still in its little bag, and an entire bag of original goldfish crackers that were only a little bit stale

this is in reference to That Guy totally missing his own open car door and wandering toward a field only to be steered back to the car by the secret service, btw

Big day, and big feelings about this day— mostly gratitude, because the team of people required to make a book work is so visible to me now after awhile in the biz, so my thanks go out to everyone from copyeditors and marketing to school & library, booksellers, librarians, and readers far and wide.

People said a lot about this book when I announced it, good and bad, but so many readers have received it just as I intended: as a fun experiment that gave me greater peace and (hopefully) gave them joy. And that’s rare, and it’s what I’m gonna carry around. Lucky me.

Like a hobby that doesn’t involve inflicting misery on others. Knitting! Birdwatching! Cross country skiing! I don’t care what it is, just stop being Like This.

twas the night before book release, and all through the house was the sound of a weird parody of an emo song being watched by my spouse the posts were scheduled by the author (me) with care in the hope that when she went to bookstores readers would be there

Go tell Maggie about your banned books, people!

Maggie Tokuda-Hall@maggietokudahall.bsky.social

Here's the thing: most books that are banned don't make the lists that get circulated each #BannedBooksWeek. If you're a book creator and your book gets banned, please respond to this post with your book and its buy link on bookshop.org. That way we can support indies and banned books 💛

ah, the experience of explaining to my PT that the thing that has the most reliably provoked nerve pain from my pinched nerve is reaching forward to press "record" or "stop recording" on my phone as I make these "Hi [country] I'm x and my book is Y" videos my publishers have requested 😂

now here's the question: skyrim is available on switch, but is it GOOD on switch? because I'd like to finally play it, and it would be really convenient to bring the switch on book tour and play it on the plane, but when I played The Witcher on switch I wanted to hurl my device into the sun

update: i started with london falling because i'd heard it was very engaging and can confirm, my attention is very much held

thinking of starting a book club that's just called unfuck your brain and it's me reading nonfiction books that, while perhaps somewhat boring, will be enriching for the doomscroll-happy ooze that has replaced my brain

this take is completely half-baked and only based on instinct but do we think there's a little house on the prairie to cozy fantasy pipeline because while I remember some non-cozy plot stuff from those books, I mostly think I read them to immerse myself in a kind of domestic routine?

Slightly awkward plane chat the other day-- Lady: are you a writer? Me: ...yes Lady: what do you write? Me: science fiction and fantasy Lady: oh, science fiction-- do you write about AI? Me: no, I mostly try to pretend AI doesn't exist, to be honest. She, of course, worked for an AI company.

such a good audiobook— both performances and the book itself, obvs.

The Republic of Memory audio book gets a shoutout from the brilliant @veronicarothbooks.com in the Stylist! I think the real credit goes to voice actors George Greenland, Kaffe Keating, Lara Sawalha and Sami Abu Wardeh who did an amazing job with the text. ift.tt/hXbuPIc

I don't necessarily write the non-bummer dystopians myself but I do enjoy them! *takes notes*

Dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction can be really, really dark...but there are always exceptions to the rule: @lishmcbride.bsky.social recommends six books, comics, and movies that embrace the lighter, funnier side of the end of the world!

15 years as of tomorrow. If you’re going to get married, I very much recommend finding someone you’re excited to meet fifteen different versions of because you know they’re all going to be awesome.
