Love the new elevation graphics of @viaduct.world 😍 You can see how the train is climbing meter by meter up to Brenner Station. Always spectacular to cross the mountains by train. 🫡

🌫️ New map view: RailQuest – Fog Map! Every area you've travelled through by train lights up. Each trip clears more fog. And yes, you can clear it all! 🚆 Trains only. Trips may take 24h to appear. Plus: easier map switching on mobile! What map view should we add next?

🚉 Railguess is now in public beta! Guess railway stations from photos, drop a pin on the map and score points based on distance. 🌍 Explore countries or continents, choose your difficulty, climb leaderboards or play endlessly. Give it a try: railguess.com

Updates & maintenance today! viaduct may experience brief outages between 12:00 and 15:00 CEST. Thanks for your patience!

Our Railway Atlas now brings stations, operators & vehicles together 🚆 Explore operators by country and see which vehicles they operate. Spot missing vehicle data? Add it on Wikidata or let us know about other issues. Pro tip: You can also add trips from the Railway Atlas. 🗺️

Station search just got a little smarter 🔎🚆 You’ll now see recently used stations and, after choosing your departure station, popular destinations from there. Favorite stations are still available via Settings. We’ll keep improving search, as it’s a core part of viaduct.

Tracks Worth Taking #5 🇨🇭 One of Switzerland's finest rail journeys doesn't require the Glacier Express. Take the regional train between Disentis/Mustér and Andermatt, crossing the Oberalp Pass at over 2,000 m. A spectacular ride in every season. 🚆🏔️ #MyTrainMap

This week on Youtube, we will NOT have our usual Simply Railway train travel video but something special... VERY special 😎 and the route may look like this... Stay tuned, video will be released this weekend !

We’re heading to Berlin! 🚆 We’ll be there on September 22 & 23 – and if you spot us, come say hi! Whether you want to chat about viaduct, share some feedback or feature ideas, or just talk about train travel for a bit, we’d love to meet you. And yes, we’ll have some viaduct merch with us, too. 👀

Calendars are here! 🚆📅 A big thank you to @tobiaswatzl.bsky.social for making Trains on viaducts possible! Together with Rails in European Cities, it’s one of our two calendars for 2027: two different perspectives on trains, journeys and railway networks. Pre-order now. Shipping starts 1 Oct.

Tracks Worth Taking #4 🇷🇴 Romania's Olt Valley between Sibiu and Râmnicu Vâlcea is a true hidden gem. Enjoy rural scenery, visit a monastery along the way—and if you're "lucky", ride a nearly 100-year-old Malaxa diesel railcar still in regular service. 🚆 #MyTrainMap

New: Track Statistics 🚆 Take a closer look at the infrastructure behind your journeys. Alongside your trip details, you can now see the total distance, how much of your route was through tunnels or over bridges, and whether most of the track was electrified. 📊

Tracks Worth Taking #3: EuroCity Emona 🇸🇮🇦🇹 Ljubljana–Vienna via the Sava River, Slovenia's wine regions and the spectacular Semmering Railway. Don't miss the Slovenian dining car—one of the last in Europe serving freshly prepared meals on board. 🍺🚆

Elevation profiles are here! ⛰️ We’ve enriched our routing data with elevation information, so you can now see the ups and downs of your journey alongside your trip details. We’ve also backfilled many existing routes — check the Data Check for any that need your attention. 🚆

Operators in viaduct just got an upgrade 🚆 Explore new details like regional or long-distance, public or private, brand or heritage. You can now add multiple operators to one trip and discover active operators by country in the Railway Atlas. Missing one? Let us know!

Really interesting project from Jon Worth: travelling from Kemijärvi 🇫🇮 to Lagos 🇵🇹 by train in just over 100 hours. 🚆 Want to see the full route and all its individual legs? We’ve mapped the journey in viaduct: viaduct.world/share/j/CZep...

Right then! Record attempt: Longest train journey in the EU is live! crossborderrail.eu/longestjourn... #CrossBorderRail #LongestTrainEU

Night trains from Roma and Milano roll directly onto a ferry to cross the Strait of Messina to Sicily. You can book a couchette or sleeper - or take the daytime train and watch the sea scenery pass by. Once you arrive, Sicily offers great rail journeys like the Circumetnea around Mount Etna.

📄 Trip from File is now in Beta! Upload ticket photos, PDFs, booking confirmations, or timetable app screenshots and viaduct extracts your trip. Review before saving. 5 uploads/month included; Patrons get extra tokens. Please report bugs! 🛤️

Take the night train from Vienna or Graz and wake up by Split’s harbour. Three direct ÖBB Nightjet services per week offer seats, couchettes and sleepers—ideal for starting a Dalmatian island trip. Don’t miss the final descent from the mountains to the sea. 🚆🌊 Created with viaduct’s sharing export.

Love seeing how much % of your country’s rail network you’ve travelled? Help us make our coverage maps better. 🚆 We’re looking for local rail experts to join our Coverage Host Programme and share feedback twice a year. Interested? Send us a message - a small Christmas thank-you gift is included! 🎁

New sharing option: transparent overlays ✨ You can now export a image with your trip stats and a simple route graphic — on a transparent background. Drop it onto your own photo and show where you went, how far you travelled, and how much time you spent on the train 🚆

Coverage stats just became more local 🚆 viaduct patrons can now view coverage by region — like Bundesland, province, state, ... See how much of a region’s rail network you’ve already travelled on, directly in the statistics page and the coverage map. Also new for all: flags in the country chart 🌍

It was a longer wait, but finally: vehicle statistics have arrived in viaduct 🚆 For trips with rolling stock info, you can now explore your journeys from a vehicle perspective: how often you rode an ICE 4, your average speed on a TGV Duplex, and more. What should we add next?

We extended our timetable data! 🚆 Big news for users adding trips in the USA and Canada: you can now use timetable data to add trips faster. Europe benefits too, like we now show timetable data for the Baltics. Missing something? Let us know! Further improvements already on the way.

Already know quick search in viaduct? 🔎 Tap the search symbol in the top navigation to open a flexible global search. Find your trips and journeys faster — or search for stations to add new trips right away. A small feature that makes navigating the app quicker and smoother 🚆

Here’s an example: our journey to Rail Live in November, from Vienna to Madrid. The animation shows the train route coming to life, including the stopover stations along the way — perfect for sharing a rail adventure, conference trip, or holiday route with others.

Are you familiar with train station codes in your country? 🚉 viaduct can now search stations by code, like EUS for London Euston or MAN for Manchester Piccadilly. Just enable it in your Settings.

Share your trips and journeys as pictures 🎟️ Our new sharepic combines your route map with trip or journey details, plus a few extra design touches to make it look good wherever you post it. Open a trip, tap the Download button, and share away. Better basemaps are already in preparation 🛤️

Data Check 🔍 Quickly spot issues in your trips before they affect your maps and stats — like negative durations, unrealistic speeds, missing routes, or low-quality geometries. Fix them or ignore them if they’re valid.

More detail to your routes 🚆 Smooth curves now replace jagged edges, and the maximum zoom level is higher so you can explore journeys more closely. Most routes were updated automatically. A few kept older geometry, and you can find them in the new data check.

Spring update is here - new features rolling out. First up: Social Features. Built from your feedback in our community survey: connect and get inspired - or stay fully private. Your choice. Create a profile, follow others, explore journeys in the travel feed. Everything is optional. Privacy first 🚆

Spring release ahead — please stand by 🌱 viaduct will be offline Sunday, April 26, 12:00–24:00 CET for major updates. Thanks for your patience 🚆

Happy World Public Transport Day 🚆 A global reminder of how public transport connects people, places, and regions.

Hundred Valleys 🚆 The Centovalli Railway runs 52 km between Locarno and Domodossola, crossing 83 bridges and 34 tunnels along the way. We rode it in 2022 and it was fantastic. Still a bit of a hidden gem compared to bigger names, but absolutely worth it.

Chicago → Pacific Northwest. The Empire Builder spans 3,500 km in ~46 hours, crossing the Mississippi, Great Plains & Glacier National Park 🚆 With sleepers, dining car & panoramic lounge, it’s built for slow travel. At viaduct, more timetable data is coming soon also outside Europe.
