I've been digitising my father's transparencies from the 50s and 60s. Unfortunately, some were on unstable film stock and degraded badly. I've finally found a use for AI. Here's an example: My brother and I at HMS Vic circa 1963. I'm at the back.

@alan678.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay Alt theme is #Pigeons&Doves, any Pigeon or Dove species. Rose-crowned Fruit Dove. I didn't attempt to photograph this one in wild, they were high up in the Queensland rainforest canopy when I saw them in 2023. This one was at Australia Zoo.

@helenbennett.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay is #BirdSupermodel and the Alt is #UnsungBirds Yellowish Flycatcher. I was up before dawn to see Resplendent Quetzal Costa Rica (2025),as were quite a few others. Nobody else was remotely interested in this little cloud forest dwelling beauty though.

@helenbennett.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestBeaks Celebrating any bird with a beak or bill that has striking colours, bold profiles, or an interesting shape. Well, Toucan play at that game! Fiery-billed Aracari & Keel-billed Toucan (Costa Rica - February 2025).

Male Holly Blue butterfly (29/9/26). 3rd brood individuals are becoming the norm in my S. Cambridgeshire garden with a few seen each autumn in recent years. Yet more evidence of the effects of our warming climate. #Butterflies

@robcrank68.bsky.social has chosen #EFG as #BirdOfTheDay theme; birds beginning with any of those letters (1st name). E - Eider Duck G - Gannet F - Fulmer All photographed 22nd June 2025 on the Brough of Birsay, a small island off the NW coast of Mainland, Orkney. (4th Photo).

Geranium Bronze (Cacyreus marshalli). Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, SW France (19/9/26). This South African butterfly arrived in Mallorca in the 1980s & is established in S. Europe. They occasionally turn up in the UK on imported plants, but it is thought our winters are too cold for them to establish.

European Mantis (Mantis religiosa). Spotted in a bowl of wax apples inside an antique/curio shop in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, SW France, on Saturday (19/9/26). I got some funny looks from other browsers but I couldn't not photograph it

Violet Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa violacea). I photographed this massive bee in the centre of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, SW France, on Saturday (19/9/26). Whilst common in southern Europe, they are rare visitors to England, which, while they occasionally breed, are not thought to be established yet.
