In my book I argue that IP fandoms are a crucial part of the economic model of the current media monopoly landscape, as fan campaigns drive down the value of creative labor via harassment and disposability, scare artists from taking risks with IP, and give execs a direct fan base all their own

I think a lot could be said about how fandoms are very much structured to be consumerist without any critical analysis of capitalist production, and how this is the logical end result of that.

The chapter on toxic fandoms is Chapter 10, "The Empire Must Be Defended", built around an analysis of the new Star Wars trilogy, the next chapter "Wakanda Forever" shows how Black Panther's reactionary narrative couldn't keep its imagery from being important to movement, at least for a few months!

Organized fandoms act as volunteer pinkertons, and while the creeps enforcing fascist visions are in actuality a tiny minority of most fandoms, loving a of particular franchise/character produces a political ambivalence that often leans towards compliance with corporate aims over artistic ones

Liberatory energies and movements do emerge from and make use of fandoms and their images (e.g: Black Panther in 2018, John Boyega's speech in 2020, or the Hunger Games salute in Thailand protests) but these uses are contingent and easily subsumed back into more disciplinary fan modes

Theirs is a movement of terror and suicidal despair, projection and self-delusion, and they can only lose since even winning for them is a living death. But our victories will not simply be experiential and affective, we are going to destroy their world and return this planet to itself in liberation

We are an image of the future, we are ecology healing itself, we are the fire which consumes prisons police and whiteness itself, we are the seedlings of a better world and we are already beginning to bloom

They want us to be scared, and sure, there is much to fear. It can always get worse. But a world that can get worse can also always get better, and our power, our vision, our beauty and our joy is stronger than anything they can imagine, and every moment we bring them to one another is a victory

It is ours to win. And we will. Yes we will outlive their bodies, but we have also already outlived them, because they could experience survival as though it is all they can aspire to. Every moment of queer joy is full of more living than any of them experience across a whole life time

Dont forget my loves, these ghouls must spend their every moment living in fear and activation in order to maintain sufficient momentum, the richest men in the world must spend all their time and money to maintain this stranglehold, and still power is constantly slipping from their grasp

We are in the beginning of the middle of the revolutionary era, and once again anything can change, everything is up for grabs. Weve learned over the last fifteen years that anything can change can often mean things get worse, but power, solidarity and liberation are building too

We dont need to reinvent proletarian movement or a culture of street resistance from first principles, as we did in the wake of the classical workers mvmt. There have been incredible experiments in mutual aid, democratic power and revolutionary organization, even if some have been drowned in blood

But despite the lack of clear narratives like eg: Arab Spring, the fall of governments in this wave is actually happening quickly and consistently (Nepal, Bangladesh, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Bulgaria)

The fact of living under fascism, the unprocessed and unresolved grief for Gaza and COVID, and having lived through the end of the first chapter of revolutions era, it feels much less hopeful and obvious than it did in e.g 2011-14, especially since weve watched things get so much worse for so long

Bolsonaro, Vucic and Orban out, Flamingo and Cockroach Revolutions, French uprising and Iberian housing movements, Nepal and Bangladesh popular insurrection, Iranian and Serbian movements, these too are heralds of the current moment. We are once again in a time of movement and revolution

We lived through the beginning of a global era of revolutions, 2011-2020, but the counter revolution, which always nips at the heels of the true movement of liberation, is offset by about 2-3 years, its era emerging in full in 2013/4 (Orban's constitution, Sisi's coup, annexation of Crimea)

We entered, imo, the middle of the revolutionary era, on October 7th, 2023. But unlike in 2011, both revolution and reaction were well in motion, well organized, deeper entrenched and/or better infrastructured, meaning they lack the explosive historical novelty and clarity of the events in the 2010s

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Last night I wrote a post about how most Dems were running to the right of Trump 16 on sexual and gender politics and decided that "most" felt hard to defend so i deleted and as a shrill anarchist shitposter i maintain an infinitely more ethical relationship to my audience then the democratic party

Their pitch this cycle is "stabilize the republic long enough for the Republicans to field a more professional fuhrer who will really deal with all these faggots immigrants and poors"

Focus on one-player experiences since I dont really have a gaming crew and fave genres are usually deck building, turn-based tactics, rogue likes (puzzle/deck > action), walking sims/visual novels, puzzle, horror/survival horror

Like obviously people breaking the terms of their relationship is awful for the injured party but the way people respond to it with the same personally engaged outrage and vehemence as other forms of harm is suss to me

*zizek voice* everything they say about AI bots coming to kill them and destroy their world is the knowledge of what they deserve at the hands of the working class, sublimated and returning as a sadomasochistic fantasy, transforming their sexualized self-loathing into profit expanding marketing

Sorry for being stupid but is it the vibe coding thats putting all these security flaws into previously much harder targets or is it the brute force capacity of the llms that's revealing holes or both?
