In this November's state election we're fielding candidates across all 88 of Victoria's lower house seats and all 8 upper house regions. It's a historic campaign, and we want you to get involved! (links below)

Victorian Socialists has announced candidates in all 88 Legislative Assembly districts and 8 Legislative council regions - the first time in the history of Victoria that a socialist party has contested every seat in both houses of the state parliament.

Thanks to the 150 legends who turned out on Sat for our campaign launch in Footscray. Ft. VS candidates Jasmine Duff (Footscray) & Anneke Demanuele (Western metro) + Aboriginal activist & historian Gary Foley and Rathy Barthlote from Refugee Women Action for Visa Equality. ✊ ❤️

It was wonderful to see so many new faces getting on board with our campaign in Melbourne's west. With a month to go until pre-polling opens on Wednesday 18th November, we're on track for another breakthrough result in this area.

And of course shout out to our wonderful candidates Serena Ashmore (Preston), Priya Reddy (Thomastown) and Omar Hassan (Northern Metro upper house), who shared their socialist origin stories and their vision for a society that puts people before profit.

VS candidate for Pascoe Vale Yasemin Shamsili was out early this morning supporting striking Merri-Bek council workers - members of the Australian Services Union - fighting for a better deal than the real wage cut of 2.75% that's currently on the table. Solidarity with these legends! ✊ ❤️ 🙌

Victoria's healthcare system is in crisis - held together only by the self-sacrifice of the health professionals who make it run. Victorian Socialists led the fight to save cohealth community health clinics from closure, and in parliament we'd take up the fight for the entire health system.

We need radical change to fix the crisis in healthcare and build a system that values its workers and puts patients' health and wellbeing first - starting with a major investment to increase the number of hospital beds, hire more healthcare staff, and increase funding for frontline community health.

Since Labor came to power in 2014, the number of hospital beds per 1,000 people has declined. For those aged over 65 - it's down by 12 percent. Any paramedic, nurse, doctor or mental health worker could tell you: statistics like these are just the tip of the iceberg.

Join VS members and supporters in Footscray this Saturday 17th October from 5pm at Littlefoot Bar + Kitchen to launch the campaigns of VS candidates Jasmine Duff (Footscray) and Anneke Demanuele (Western Metro). Ft. special guest speaker Professor Gary Foley.

Massive shout out to the hundreds of new volunteers who are helping us take a socialist message of hope, solidarity, and collective struggle for a better world to voters across the state! ✊❤🙌

MC'd by Safe Schools Founder Roz Ward, the launch will feature music, art and a special live presentation by Jordan about his socialist origin story and his plans for parliament. Also speaking will be Omar Hassan, the Victorian Socialists candidate for the Northern Metro.

Hundreds of thousands of Victorian children are living with extreme food insecurity - with many regularly skipping meals. To address this, and bring relief to working-class households, Victorian Socialists propose to implement a free lunch program for all public primary school students.

We would also end all ‘voluntary’ parent contributions for things like uniforms, devices, camps and excursions, which should be paid for out of the state’s general revenues to ensure that no child is left disadvantaged and no family is humiliated for lack of money.

Support our policies? Sign on to our 'vote socialist pledge' - rejecting the major parties and One Nation and supporting a socialist vision of society that puts people before profit and ensures everyone has what they need to live a decent life. pledge.victoriansocialists.org.au

Some of our extra-large campaign signs starting to go up in prominent spots around Melbourne! We don't have the $$$ to run anywhere near the kind of paid advertising the major parties can, but we've got a strong base of support and hundreds of volunteers to help get our message out. ✊ ❤️

Victorian Socialists encourages its members and supporters to attend tomorrow's Global Day for Gaza rally - taking place at 12pm at the State Library (look out for our stall and contingent near the Sunken Library on corner Swanston & La Trobe Sts).

Israel's genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and terror campaign of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank continues, and so must our resistance! We demand an end to all weapons trade with Israel and for the Australian government to sever all ties with the Israeli terror regime.

Nice to see VS candidate for Bass Chris Jobe getting a mention in Crikey for talking sense on potholes at a recent candidate forum on Phillip Island (article link below). No doubt there will be many such moments 'halfway between sincere amusement and genuine irritation' in this campaign!

Put politicians on a worker's wage and get the big corporate interests out of parliament! The starting salary of a Victorian MP is $219,000, putting them in the richest 4 percent of income earners. Ministers get more than $390,000, putting them in the top 1 percent.

This kind of policy is one reason why major party politicians and the billionaires they serve feel threatened by socialists. They don't want anyone in parliament who is going to upset 'business as usual' and actually fight for a better deal for working-class people and the oppressed.

VOTE '1' for Victorian Socialists to put people in parliament who'll take on all the big corporate and elite interests that dominate politics in this country and put the fear up billionaires like Gina Rinehart who've had everything their way for so long! pledge.victoriansocialists.org.au

This, combined with the cosy relationships that develop between politicians and corporate lobbyists and other big business representatives, mean they're much more likely to identify with and look after the interests of elites than working-class people in the communities they represent.

We think politicians should be paid an average full-time worker's wage - equivalent to a 6th year nurse (currently $96,000), with increases pegged to the nurses' award. If elected, our candidates will accept only that amount and put the rest into community campaigns in the areas they represent.
