If you spot any of these: a) Blind faith in a leader who claims to speak for the people and calls for action with no room for doubt. b) Appeals to fear or mainly disgust toward those marked as different while constructing enemies seen as both strong and weak.

The good news is that while modern democracies try to leverage capitalism without getting absorbed by it, this new face of the old fascism is practically guaranteed. This backlash shows we're moving in the right direction.

Doesn't mean progress can't be made by carefully wielding populism or capitalism. While threats to democracy keep using it against itself, we should also play that judo game. Drink from the poison to make the antidote.

c)Praise for tradition and rejection of modernity, glorifying life as permanent struggle in which the weak have no place. It's probably fascism and it does get clicks, likes and votes. No need to wait for salutes, it's already fascism.

Friendly reminder that we always had the option of building data centers with closed water systems powered by renewable energies. We don't and that's why watching cat videos contributes to climate chaos. Much like many other things caused by a system we keep upholding instead of changing it.

Friendly reminder that there is no Nobel prize for economics. That being said, we can do worse than a award for having policy makers, like, talk to the people affected by their policies.

In a new age of simulacra, online bubbles and cognitive dissonance, still nobody wants to discuss semantics. We're desperately thirsty for #philosophy and yet we won't take that sip of water.

One of the many advantages of having a social media account in some random mastodon instance ran by a hamster-powered toaster, is that your time and attention has zero chance of contributing to the wealth of an elite psychopath.

Also, the toaster is sun-powered now and the hamster is enjoying a parental leave. Point being, social media doesn't have to feel like a bad deal with the devil.

If you tie your kid to a very narrow identity online, you can expect them to take some big emotional hits when that gets attacked as an extension of who they are at school. They can't escape.

It's already friday and Portuguese media are still reporting on a cold slice of last week #AI news. This just in: ex-Anthropic employee says AI can kill us all. No mention of the renewed consensus from OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI. No mention of the official response from China. #Portugal

People keep saying that frameworks like #tailwind or even #stylex are good for agents, but are they working in our current reality where even frontier LLMs still suck at frontend and #CSS?

Meanwhile, if your #HTML is just mumbo-jumbo, you're forced to address everything visually by scribbling on screenshots, hoping that the agent gets what you mean and ignoring bad structural choices that contribute to lingering issues.

People keep saying that frameworks like #tailwind or even #stylex are good for agents, but are they working in our current reality where even frontier LLMs still suck at frontend and #CSS?

I'm not even saying that you should look at the code, but often it helps a lot if you're able to inspect element into something that's wrong and be able to tell an agent what to do with actionable words. Like, this class, label or id, lose the padding, don't use absolute units, etc.

Whenever we can identify some way in which LLMs can't count Rs on the word strawberry, that's fixed now. Turns out that product managers can take over the world if we let them. Given infinite resources, language can be composed in infinite ways.

Eventually, LLMs will still have limitations, but these won't be so relevant and it's also likely that AI will have moved on to something else by then. PMs can only take us so far anyway. Hopefully, scientists will still know what we're doing.
