My senator told me Iranian missiles keep draining the Gulf’s interceptor stockpiles so I asked how many interceptors we have left and he said we just order more from Raytheon afterwards so I said it sounds like we’re just trading $4m interceptors for $100k missiles and then Taiwan started crying.

So I guess Chinese AI labs having access to high end NVIDIA hardware was always an open secret? If you’re an NVIDIA compute wholesaler do you have onerous reporting requirements or is this convenient arbitrage?

Who are you favorite interchangeable movie stars? Tobey Maguire : Jake Gyllenhaal Daniel Radcliffe : Elijah Wood Alden Ehrenreich : Peter Sarsgaard I’m sure there are more…

Still looks like they’re scared of Talarico and we all need to lean into that even harder

Sky Marchini@sky.skymarchini.net

shit like this is why i say the press are a bunch of chickenshits. "oh they yelled at us so we just dumped it on youtube" you fucking cowards, air it anyways and dare them to sue you then put the threats in the court record. air a title card saying "THE US GOVERNMENT ORDERED THIS NOT AIR", come on

So Talarico has them scared? Is that what I’m hearing?

Mike Johnson on the midterm convention: The president's gonna look right in the camera and say, I am on the ballot. Because even though his name isn't, right, his administration is.

This is the way. A DGX Spark in every hackerspace. It would take more than that but you need to start somewhere.

Open weights, communal hosting. “Community-owned” makes sense for physical infrastructure, not for information.

The last two solar eclipses I’ve seen were total eclipses so watching a partial one — even 90% — feels so much less impressive. I think I need to seriously consider traveling for the one next summer (southern Spain, North Africa)

Spent the last week driving a lot in Germany and I have to say: not a big fan of the no limit portions of the Autobahn. When there are only two lanes you often find yourself needing to pass slower traffic but contending with passing lane cars going 40-60kmh faster. Really stressful

Found a much better illustration than the OAI-sourced graphs

I predict Anthropic will squander any lead they had as a frontier AI lab. Claude can’t seem to do anything useful without vomiting out 3-4x the tokens of their competitors. So they either cut their prices to the bone or lose.

I think I just figured out why I hate reading Claude output so much: it’s usually Claude having a conversation with itself and rarely contains any of the user’s voice. Been reading whole documents like this for the past month and it sucks. I want to hear my coworker’s voice instead.

I realize most users are on a subscription so the cost angle doesn’t really land. But Claude Code isn’t getting better and burning context window with excessive verbosity also degrades performance. Using Fable to work around these problems is not going to work for everyone

I don’t want to kink shame but this is straight up masochism: > Make your answers as long and detailed as you possibly can.

"Never hallucinate or make anything up." yes, you can just demand that the LLM not make errors that's definitely how the technology works

What’s the consensus on Gastown/Gascity these days? I remember everyone thought it was insane ramblings back in January, which, fair. But is it looking more useful now?

A potential data point

I've yet to meet a real engineer who says they've mastered running more than one agent at a time (not on real work, only playing with e.g. GasTown) I'm in multiple forums with very experienced people leaning hard into this stuff. It's only on X and LinkedIn you see people say they're doing it.

This is long but it’s got some great points. I suppose I’m just a sucker for anything that draws from Brooks’s Mythical Man Month.

New blog post: I got tired of having repetitive arguments explaining why I think it’s OK to be skeptical of LLMs for coding, so I wrote six and a half thousand words on the topic that I will be referring people to from now on. www.b-list.org/weblog/2026/...

Trump inadvertently crushing Bitcoin is a funny outcome.

Catio Miles@catiomiles.bsky.social

Bitcoin is traded today at $66k The cost to mine a bitcoin was $50k before the Iran war started, probably double that now. But as Russia has subsidised energy (ie at the wider Russian economy loss), it was still profitable... so they just ban the bitcoin mining.

I feel very conflicted about OpenAI acquiring Astral. The Astral team is kicking ass and definitely deserves to be rewarded. I can also understand why OAI might want to own “the whole stack” for LLM Python development. ruff and ty are excellent guard rails for keeping an agent on track.

Also, how did a16z get a piece of this deal? Seriously, fuck those guys. I know they were part of the series B raise. Still, Astral seems too … legitimate? … compared to all the other bullshit they fund.

On the other hand, I kinda expect OpenAI to implode in the next 5 years. Maybe they could spin off Astral again, but who knows what will have happened to the team by then? Open source is good insurance for the future of uv, but governance will be tough to figure out.

After qualifying I thought the race today would be a lot more boring than it turned out. It was still roughly the result I expected but the middle parts were plenty entertaining. The Red Bull second seat is still as cursed as ever.

My youngest started throwing up last night at 4am and we kept putting fresh sheets on the bed so she could go back to sleep. By about 6am and a few more changes we were basically doing the coyote meme feeding sheets to the washing machine.

I think most people wearing this hat look dumb. But today I realized that expression on their face is just smug cozy warmness and they don’t care if anyone is jealous.

IMO this is also a driver of adoption in many businesses.

this is incidentally one of the only things AI is genuinely good at defraying responsibility "Me, I didn't do anything, I just asked grok :)"
