Wildwood is absolutely mesmerizing with its animation quality and spectacle. As far as a movie more generally I think it's of a similar caliber to Kubo and not quite reaching Laika's peak of Paranorman.

Started doing a little bit of a side project for my own tvOS UI for Plex that feels a little more native to the platform and aligned with Apple's own app designs

I built chonkit to work well as a standalone iOS web w/ safe area inset aware styling. In an ultimate test I pulled it up onto the iPhone Duo simulator without making any changes to see how it'd fare. I think it's decent! Definitely not perfect but I don't think it needs many changes to look great.

I'm re-watching PsychOdyssey and just like last time it makes me want to try and learn how to build a game. If it's anything like last time though it'll just pass but maybe because I'm unemployed right now will change things.

Made it to Seattle for PAX! The decision to drive was so worth it, and even with it raining most of the way it felt like a sightseeing tour almost the entire way there.

Something I'm finding frustrating about interviews is that unless I absolutely knock it out of the park I really don't have a good idea of how well I did or not. I've had ones that I've felt good about getting mixed feedback and ones I've felt like I've bombed get almost all positive feedback.

I feel so fortunate that I'm job searching in a time where most of the companies I'm applying for have a "frontend track" so my skills can be best showcased instead of fumbling around with leetcode style questions.

The more system design interviews I do the more I think that it's actually just a behavioral interview in a technical trench coat. Most of my mental facilities end up going trying to sus out the vibes of the interviewer and what they want than actually designing a system.

I'm working on chonkit again after a looooong hiatus and added the beginnings of an image gallery attachment. The CSS snap point powered carousel was an interesting challenge but I think I've finally got something good! (I know the static images are super low res atm I'm going to tackle that next)

I have not been following the absolute latest developments of CSS as closely as I have in the past but this is *already* a major issue for large scale web apps. I always hated when debugging perf issues where all you'd get is a big block of "layout" or "compositing layers" with no deeper insight.

I have a vague worry that, as we put more and more computation into CSS, web devs are going to end up with performance issues that are difficult to trace to their source compared to JS solutions. The answer is to surface this in DevTools I guess.

Just finished up the campaign to First Light. Was pretty consistently impressed with the storytelling throughout but that high bar it established made me disappointed with the final act(s). It felt incomplete & straightforward compared to the thought & care the story had towards the beginning.

Waymos, especially on the highway, still get A TON of attention in the Bay Area. When I turn to look at the cars next to mine it’s not uncommon to see an entire family with their phones out looking back.

interesting that the only word we get from the actual developers of theses games are executive producers and CEOs

In S2E3 of Netflix's One Piece I heard about 5 seconds of the "Whisky Peak Saloon" song and was like oh dip that sounds like Leo P on the sax — and after looking it up it is!

I'm no pundit so this is kind of a shot in the dark — but this shutdown reminds me of Xbox shutting down Tango Gameworks and the common thread between the two is that the teams were "between games" when they were shut down. I think these shutdowns might be more about bad timing :/

BREAKING: PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of classic games such as Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, Bloomberg News has learned. A shocking end for a well-respected studio.
