Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We can get to zero by demanding governments design transportation systems to put safety first. http://linkin.bio/visionzeroyvr

A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

In November we're hosting 2 (free) events in recognition of World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims: a rally at City Hall on Nov 15, and a panel of crash survivors at VGH on Nov 20. Please see details and join us: visionzerovancouver.ca/2026/10/23/w...

This is why we fight so hard for lower speeds. Kids will be kids, cars are too large and hard to see around, and frankly our streets suck. We hate seeing these stories. But travelling at 20km/h, the child escaped with minor injuries. At 50km/h we'd be writing a completely different post.

Today, BC removes their 2nd driving test from licensing. Whether you walk, bike, or drive, look around - does it seem like drivers on our roads need less training, or more? We're not married to the 2-test system. But it's irresponsible to remove it without replacing it with other safety measures.

cbc.caNovice drivers in B.C. now eligible to get full licence without 2nd road test | CBC NewsNovice or "N" drivers will no longer need to take a second road test to obtain their full licence in B.C., as of Monday. The change is meant to increase access, according to the province, but road saf...

This election was about a lot of issues. But we're thrilled that 10/11 winners tonight endorsed our entire first-year platform, and that the only incumbents who won all scored between A- and A+ on our road safety report card. Vancouver made it clear: road safety matters!

Today's the day folks! Don't forget to get out and vote - check out our handy voting guide if you're still looking for info:

We've gone through all the platforms & past actions, and today we're releasing our final all-in-one-place Vancouver City Council voting guide! It would be an excellent thing for Vancouver if Iona Bonamis, Lucy Maloney and Caitlin Stockwell were all elected to council tomorrow - this video does a great job of explaining why.

We have a bounty of opportunity on our streets. These folks are ready to seize it. @lucymaloney.bsky.social @caitlinstockwell.bsky.social @ionabonamis.bsky.social youtu.be/E1LtBKE7yY8

Watching in dismay & with solidarity for our friends in Toronto, as the province removes life-saving infrastructure. Also a stark reminder of what can happen in Vancouver with the wrong people in charge. Already, ABC has torn out one bike lane (Stanley Park)... (1/3) 🧵

Arrests in five minutes

At this alarming trajectory, it wouldn't shock us if soon they start suggesting tearing out downtown bike lanes. We can't afford the risk of another 4 years of these ideologically-driven reactionary politicians. Election day is on Saturday.

“If we simply go with, ‘OK, some people are mad about this. Let’s rip it all out and never do it again' [...] Then we are not going to get to the other side of whatever growing pains there might be to a better functioning and successful project.” Great 🍌🚧 article. thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...

thetyee.caVancouver Parties Split on Making Roads Safer | The TyeeFrom traffic-calming barriers to safer streets, the parties have different ideas about how to protect people on the road.

This is a strawman from Dominato; no one at Vision Zero wants to abolish roads. But we're curious to know, when she says "we have to strike a balance", what's her acceptable number of deaths on our roads?

Reallocating some road space is a broadly popular move that just makes sense. Unless it's election time in which case never mind, it's radical Pete Fry's anti-car agenda. Let's vote these liars out.

Does reallocating 11% of road space make sense? Depends on which ABC candidate you ask... And when you ask them. youtu.be/1zMJaKURCiM

Mayor Sim (ABC) F We couldn't imagine a worse leader for our city. Talks endlessly about public safety, and then votes again and again to make our streets more dangerous - at least, on the rare occasion he actually shows up to council in the first place.

Clr Klassen (ABC) D Has a knack for speaking very eloquently and lengthily about a certain topic before casting the wrong vote. Had a single good idea in 4 years which he then actively chose not to fund.

Clr Meiszner (ABC) D The poster child for how the cynicism of politics can break someone. He used to care - we think. Now all he does is parrot the talking points of his party. Was the leading voice in making sure we don't reduce speeds on our most deadly streets.

Clr / mayoral candidate Bligh (ABC / Independent / Vote Vancouver) B- Not the best years with ABC. Much better voting record after leaving. She's an ally but never distinguished herself as a leader on this issue.

Clr Dominato (ABC) C Not the lowest score, but the most disappointing on our entire list. We've spoken with her enough to know that she cares about this issue more than her fellow party members. Unfortunately, she never found the courage to show it.

Clr (and mayoral candidate) Fry (Green Party) A His multi-year fight for reduced speeds on residential streets came to fruition this term, one of the most important road safety actions this council passed in its entire 4 years.

On Wednesday morning as our volunteers were out bright and early campaigning for safer streets, the keyboard warriors in the mayor's office were simultaneously putting out a release promising to remove hard-fought and life-saving traffic calming. (1/3)

Patrick sent me a personal note to say my near-faral crash informed road safety decisions. Not only is he a road safety champion bit he's also a very lovely, caring person.
