“On the Brink” at the Fitzwilliam in #Cambridge (1864, by Alfred Elmore). A young woman in a casino who, to fund gambling habits / debts, is considering #sexwork. A moralistic tale and a reminder to all women of the delicacy of their reputation. #cultoffemalemodesty

I’ll be speaking at Caius (Cambridge) on Wednesday at 5.30pm on the topic of “Women & the Rise and Decline of Civilisations”, drawing on my latest book #economica 📗. Look forward to possibly seeing you there.

“The Money Changer and his Wife”, painted in 1514 by Quentin METSYS (on display at the #Louvre in Paris). As an economic historian and feminist, this is a painting filled with so much meaning in relation to my own work. It was an absolute joy to see it in-person for the very first time. #econhis

At RDV de L’Histoire in Blois, the first question from Anne-Sophie Lechevallier inspired me, so I have promised to take off one item of clothing for every question. So far I’ve only taken off my poncho, so the real question is: do I run out of clothes or does Anne-Sophie run out of questions first…

Looking forward to being on stage @rdvhistoire.bsky.social tomorrow 📚

Honoured to be speaking at the world’s largest history festival @rdvhistoire.bsky.social next month in France at the Royal Palace in #Blois. Look forward to being surrounded by fellow historians, history lovers and books 📚 #Economica will be out in French later this month. #RVH2026 #womenwealthpower

I’m surrounded! Magical and sublime - rather like being in a fairytale - this was my first time experiencing Monet’s wrap around water lilies at the #Orangerie in #Paris. Well worth a visit.

A treat to be interviewed by Charlie Dupiot @rfi.fr about Economica 📚. A wonderfully wide ranging conversation covering so much ground and so many of history’s most remarkable women, from Madam Tinubu to Josephine Baker.

Out and about in beautiful Paris with #Economica 📗 - thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome. Looking forward to the next few days of talks and interviews (as well as some more delicious French cooking).

What a memorable #Economica 📗 book launch in #Paris today. Huge thanks #Voxe & #PointNemo - I’m overwhelmed by your support. Inspiring to meet and chat with so many women writers, entrepreneurs, journalists, professionals and activists from across France. Here’s to women’s economic freedom.

I fell in love with boats when I first visited Venice, so you can imagine how excited I was to learn that my Parisian #Economica book launch will be taking place tomorrow on the Seine at the foot of Notre Dame. Huge thanks to Voxe & #pointnemo_editions for this very special treat. I am overwhelmed.

The perfect #Economica welcome to Paris 🍾🧁 To resist or not to resist - that is the question! Paris, how can I possibly resist your many charms? #economica #womenwealthpower #paris

“In such ugly times, the only true protest is beauty” (Phil Ochs). I’m not entirely sure I agree, though I can understand the point. Provocative and bewitching (& Palazzo Pisani Moretta provides a beautiful backdrop), this inaugural exhibition of the Fondazione Dries Van Noten ends tomorrow. #venice

Ahead of my trip to Paris, thrilled to feature in #MadameFigaro. Huge thanks to Céline Cabourg for such an insightful and thoughtful piece, drawing together my academic work and activism alongside my latest book, Economica (published in France by #PointNemoEditions) #economica #womenwealthpower

Honoured and humbled that #Economica has been shortlisted for one of France’s top literary prizes: the 2027 Prix Nos Humanités (as created by Page des libraires and la Sofia). I can’t wait to join librarians, readers, booksellers and fellow authors in France very soon. #noshumanités2027

#Economica 📗 - my economic history of the world - spotted on the #CultureVulture table at Waterstones London Victoria. A big thank you to everyone who has read or gifted the book. I am very grateful.

Where art history meets economic history: “Women Artists and Artisans in Venice and the Veneto, 1400-1750” 📚, edited by Professor Tracy E. Cooper. The first publication to result from an exciting new research program. Can’t wait to see how the research unfolds. #econhist #venice #womenartists

Rocking it with the Roman (or, rather, Greek) ladies at the Correr Museum in #Venice today. We are old friends: Athena and Aphrodite featured in my last two books (though, whilst the heavens expect women to choose between their body and their brain, as the Gods cannot otherwise cope, I refuse).

The monumental scale of artistic installations and exhibits at this year’s #Venice #biennale - the International Art Festival - with themes that this year include feminism, migration, climate change, decolonisation, belonging and not only anti-capitalism but also anti-communism.

A Spectre is Haunting Europe (Un fantasma percorre l’Europa) by Armando Pizzinato, 1949 - a title that you may recognise from the pages of the #CommunistManifesto. On display at #CaPesaro in #Venice - a chance to see some of the best modern art in an historic palazzo on the #GrandCanal.

Live from the #RegataStorica in #Venice. With a history that dates back to at least the mid 13th century, regattas are a symbol of Venice’s seafaring past. Venice was a city built on trade and today the boats that underpinned the wealth of the city will be parading along the Grand Canal.

What do you do if you’re the national broadcaster - #RAI - and you need to get your broadcasting vans into a city where vehicles are not permitted? Well, you put them on a platform and boat them along the canals, mooring them up in the middle of the #GrandCanal, at the heart of the action. #Venice

In today’s #DeStandaard (alongside some familiar faces). A pleasure to be interviewed by Giselle Nath. #Economica - my economic history of the world - 📗 is out now in Dutch. #econhis #econhist
