Moscow is conducting early (illegal) elections in the occupied territories of Ukraine and Crimea for the upcoming (rigged) legislative Duma elections in russia to be held from Fri, 18 – Sun, 20 Sept 2026. "Free and fair elections" with masked gunmen armed with AK-74's, to make sure you toe the line.

Armed and masked Russian soldiers are moving across large parts of the Donetsk region and are trying to coerce Ukrainians into voting in the sham Russian parliamentary election. This is yet another crime in the long list of Russian atrocities.

One aspect of that clip you will notice is it's almost all women voting, a couple of old men, young kid on a swing. All the other males of fighting age have been sent to the front. These are the superior improvements in life that "Russkiy Mir" brings to the Donetsk Women's Republic.

Just watch for about 5 minutes, Rory straight up calls Vuchich a fascist. A very memorable moment. Vuchich fooled them in the interview, very polite etc. They conducted the interview in the Presidential palace in Beograd. With the death of the butcher of the Balkans, now they know the real Vuchich!

Got an update with the pickling for winter. First batch of tomatoes are done! These are marinated in vinegar water, some salt and sugar plus garlic, hot chili-pepper, bell pepper, parsley, dill and celery. Cucumbers next. Also fermented cabbage (kvashena kapusta). bsky.app/profile/vuch...

It's pickling season for preserves in Ukraine again. Old Slavic tradition. Maybe half of Ukrainians do it, just a guess. My wife does, but not everyone we know does it. Clean/sterilise the jars. Have tomatoes (we'll buy cucumbers tomorrow). Finished jars ready for winter, from a previous season. 🥒🍅🫙

If anyone's wondering what my header photo is, it's a hole made by an unexploded Soviet era 152mm artillery shell. Pics I took in 2014. Dud rates of Soviet era 152mm is ~20% and russian made 152mm have dud rates of ~5%. So I guess that explains why these two were duds. bsky.app/profile/vuch...

Makiivka Train station, now in the so-called DNR, August 2014. The angle the artillery came in, was from the north east, so most likely Girkins Ruzzian forces. I wonder if Pushilin or Girkin had these duds removed or just cover them over & leave them. If you ever enter the platform there, GO LEFT!😉

On Ukrainian independence day, pics I took in May 2014 during the "maidan", which was a sort of independence protest to finally break form the russian yoke. The tents were not cleared from Khreshchatyk Street until late 2014. Also some pics from the actual maidan (i.e. square). Alt-text has details.

Ukrainian Flag day is today. Doing the important thing, in Karlivka, October 2018. Raising the flag on the tower & also on the border of the Pokrovsk & Yasinovata Raion. Our convoy from Pokrovsk had permission to enter this restricted zone to deliver home made preserves to the defenders there. 🇺🇦

Karlivka was recaptured in late 2014, but was lost again in 2024, when Trump before he was President, would not let Mike Johnson pass the military aid bill, which caused the loss of Avdiivka. It led to the salient that destroyed my home town of Pokrovsk. 😢 I hope these defenders are still alive.🙏

I forgot to mention in the alt-text, the name Pokrovsk originates from the Ukrainian word "Pokrov", which means a "veil of protection" (from the Mother of Jesus, Mother Mary). A very apt slap in the face to the godless communists. Whether religious or not, it is an understandable renaming! 🙏

Echoes of Donetsk Oblast: Chasiv Yar. Visited this town in 2016 on the way to the Artemovsk winery in Bakhmut (old name Artemivsk), 10km (6 miles) away. Chasiv Yar is destroyed now. We stopped at the museum in the centre of town. Read the Alt-Text for more details. Will post Bakhmut pics next.

Never forget Zhepa: During the Yugoslav breakup wars, in July 1995, the Bosnian Serb army committed genocide against 8,000 Bosnians in Srebrenica. Its next target was the "safe enclave" of Zhepa, which was guarded by 79 Ukrainian UNPROFOR peacekeepers from the 240th separate special battalion. 1/4

My father's side of the family is Bosnian, all ethnically cleansed from, Bosanski Novi. Mother's side Serbian, living as normal in Beograd (Belgrade). I have tremendous respect for what the Ukrainians did in Zhepa to defend Bosnians from Serbian ethnic cleansing. It's why I live in Ukraine. 3/4

The 79 Ukrainian peacekeepers, were defending against ~1,000 Serbs that surrounded Zhepa. The Ukrainians used a brave tactic to evacuate up to 10,000 Bosnians, that the Dutch peacekeepers failed to do at Srebrenica, by placing Ukrainian soldiers on each bus with civilians. The tactic worked. 2/4

Pokrovsk telecom station, August 2015. We used to have Sunday summer BBQ's there in better times. The interior equipment, a lot of it old Soviet era (but not all). The stray cats of course. That red box is a Soviet "extinguisher" (no modern foam) for electrical fires. The box says "песок" (sand). 🧯

I have found some extra pics to update this old post. I can see a fire extinguisher there with the shovel for the sand. I don't remember of that's foam or if it even works. Also, old Soviet caretakers house, long abandoned. Some of the wives walking to the BBQ etc. Year is 2015. Read the alt-text.

An extra pic of the cats I found plus the Soviet outhouse for the caretakers house. This just highlights how backwards the USSR was, in most modern western countries, people had indoor toilets. Well, this as the marvel of Soviet "progress" in 1991. No wonder russians come here to steal our toilets.

Ukraine never qualified for the world cup this year, & my backup team Bosnia got knocked out, so I lost interest. I dug up some old pics from Donetsk City in 2014, public statues of the 2012 UEFA Euro ⚽ tournament, hosted by Poland and Ukraine. It's all ruined now, in the decrepit so-called "DNR".
