every time I see people trying to move the AI overton windows in creative fields it feels like someone insisting I bite into a rice crispy treat with an undisclosed amount of sawdust in it

guys the only way I can run this business is if I cook rats and the children I snatch from the playground behind my house why do you want me to fail? Why do you want to crush my dreamsssssss like thissssss 🥺

it's always interesting to watch market-motivated people freak out when the market broadly rejects the thing they've invested in

I'm the farthest thing from an optimist on the games industry, but the current Steam Next Fest being a disaster has me wondering if the AI glut will result in more interest in curation/discovery pieces again if game discoverability becomes so much work as to be a job maybe it actually is one again?

there's this wonderful thing they do where multiple characters state that they don't touch podracers bc they're suicide machines for sickos eventually you get to drive one thanks to a character who offers it like he's pushing drugs and you go twice as fast directly into a wall game rocks

I acknowledge that there's another lower-priced tier, but it still severely undercuts Restoration Games' stated ethos of making OOP board games accessible again when they price their lead offering higher than an original copy of said infamously expensive OOP board game

my fatigue with Cthulhu Wars-esque attempts at "Cadillac Games" is immeasurable. we simply do not need these. odds are good that, were something bad to happen, prospective purchasers' families will have far greater concerns than whether or not they can still play dad's bigass LotR crate

I don't get say as to which quotes folks choose to use for promo so I am very glad CMYK chose that one in particular Grabble rules! play it if you can, ideally 10 times in a row

CMYK@cmyk.games

"The purest, most perfect way to laugh for 5 minutes" — Space-Biff "Surely going to be one of my favorite games of the year" — Dale Yu "I had a blast" – SVWAG "Go Fish for Jerks - 9/10" — Pixel Die "Another vibrant, colorful hit from CMYK" — Board Game Animal www.cmyk.games/products/gra...

if my current projects and playthroughs are any indication, the N64's library has aged better than you'd think but not thanks to most of the games you would reasonably assume

30 years ago today, the Nintendo 64 was released in NA. It was distributed by Nintendo.

me: wow so many of these racing games are great, why don't people talk about these also me: Banjo-Kazooie is an affront salvaged only by Grant Kirkhope's sheer skill and whimsy

one of the most frustrating things about TCG/CCGs is finding a community where people actually talk about the game in depth I'm spoiled by Netrunner where people are amped to talk strats, build decks, and run sets to test in TCGs it's weirdly difficult to find substance, at least in my experience

yes I've been in several walled gardens/paid communities, which is a super common thing in TCGs for whatever reason yes the problem remains. if anything a lot of people seem to just be in those to sponge up info VS do anything

having worked in print ads, I highly doubt this is the result of failure to proofread. there are way too many people involved in the production of any printed material I think someone at Sonic finally had enough of their brain't coworkers and just let them have exactly what they wanted, unaltered

Oh hell yes can't wait to get a nice hot cup of Tao 9/5 Halt to go with my yummy Super Chousedeburger at the new Fort Wayne Sonic might even swing by in the morning for a delicious sandwich of Fremch Toast Sticks, tho idk that Breakfast Murt and Cheese looks good too www.reddit.com/r/fortwayne/...

editing my Resi Movie Opinion: in adapting the mechanics/structure of the series over any given plot, Cregger demonstrates a better understanding of genre than almost anyone working in the IP mines ever has to be clear it's still just "a good movie", but that's an achievement for game riffs!

there isn't much more authentically Resident Evil than running circles while fumbling with a weapon, missing with said weapon, getting stuck on locked doors/impassible terrain, and saying "fuck" at least twice a minute as shit gets unimaginably worse

I'm sure plenty of other people have said this first but the best spoiler-free summary for this one is easily "ride along with a typical Resi NPC for 90 minutes"

"you'll get to work in games more!" "no shit, that rules!" "you'll eventually leave willingly and get a normal job!" "aw man. do I at least get to travel for more esports stuff first?" "buddy, they won't even get to"

god I wish I could recommend the Homestar Runner card game, but it's kind of a hot mess rulebook issues aside (not usable as-is, only some issues are corrected in the digital version), you just kinda pass around cards until someone's pants are just too full of incriminating evidence and they lose

bit charming despite being surprisingly mechanics-forward, mostly on account of it producing a lot of HR-ass sentences like "I hope your pants have room for 3 piping hot orders of curly fries!", but it's just for HR diehards that are also into board games and no one outside of the middle of the venn

I have no idea if these are actually good games yet, but Weast Coast is making some of the prettiest card games I've seen in a hot minute

one of the problems with any "what if I played all the X of Y library" project is that they don't combine well with my "don't talk about shit unless it's for sure coming out" policy on a related note I do not care much for Top Gear Rally

it's worth noting that brains are broadly pretty great at recovering from things like this (as far as we know) the question is whether folks deep in the prompt mines will actually give it up for their own well being we should encourage and welcome them back if they try, fwiw

A study revealed that after 4 months of frequent ChatGPT use, users experience a 47% drop in neural connectivity and a marked inability to recall content they just generated.

this isn't like, a serious issue or anything, but it's super weird that the rulebook for Machi Koro Life opens on how sick crypto is

hey it's like half the reason I dropped! in order to write meaningful crit you need to spend time with the same game for a while. turns out a lot of board game people don't care for that! now that the bubble has popped it may be more viable, except that also took the already-limited money with it

Dan Arndt@danarndtwrites.bsky.social

Part of why I and a lot of others have gotten so burnt out on it is that it is a constant churn of consumption and toxic positivity. Funnily enough, publishers tend to actually LIKE proper criticism because they're run by people who don't have a parasocial relationship with pieces of plastic

to Arndt's point, almost all of my negative interactions were with overinvested fans that made liking the Thing their whole personality and saw my words as violent I hold no ill will, to be clear! posting things on the internet opens you up to it. fan backlash is harmless, you didn't make the thing

now I'm perfectly content just writing whenever something feels worth writing about. if I had my way I'd get rid of the last of my socials and just produce a written piece out of nowhere seemingly at random, like a mountain hermit descending from his cave except for card games

I can think of exactly one case where I was explicitly blacklisted by a publisher for criticism. most understand it's the cost/risk of doing business, and I've had very few negative interactions as a result of the work I'd produced, regardless of pos/neg coverage

that's not to say that marketers don't get catty! and I can say that, I am one, much to my chagrin. sometimes a disagreement on game quality means you're both done, no harm no foul the future of independent tabletop crit is in limbo, but there is no foundation to be found in calling copy criticism

and people think '08 was a bad year??? I didnt even include L4D1, Spelunky Classic, or a bunch of other XBLA bangers. there was plenty of good stuff in the late aughts if you were willing to look outside brown'n'bloom!

the very idea that any year post-home consoles had no worthwhile releases is just bonkers there are so many video games

discourse around the N64 library is kind of impossible for me to participate in, but not because of nostalgia blinders as much as I look at all the things people criticize and respond with "I know right? it rules"

this post brought to you by Jeff Gerstmann realizing while live that Gauntlet Legends is (scientifically speaking) an excellent game/port it's muddy! its sound is kinda fucked! it's grindy sometimes! it's real ass video games and it's great!

for some reason this app tried to lock me out for an age check, then just let me in anyway a few hours later??? I am not giving fucking bluesky a shred of docs, place ain't worth it if I vanish off of this platform soon y'all know why

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if calling it a remaster is what it takes to get reprints of old editions of games that deserve it? fine, cool, go full video games industry if you gotta Arkham 2nd Ed is an all-timer and should be perpetually in print, this is a good thing

it's a gamefound pre-order and I feel A Certain Kind of Way about that, but look, it gets Arkham 2nd on tables again. I can bend, I am a flexible sort

that splatoon raiders game is really something, or more accurately a lot of little things feels less like a traditional looter shooter and more like a super abridged Monster Hunter, but minus crafting? problem is I'm not 100% sure the progression and structure fully gel for me. still fun though!

it's worth noting the only squid game I played prior to this was the first one on the wii u, so I do not know shit beyond "paint roller good" and "I like this Big Man character"

this is some of the limpest key jingling I've ever seen no one is going to look past xbox's problems because they can finally play fuzion frenzy
