Would you believe our game is built from basically just 1 texture?

This demo was super fun! some great wordless discoveries, I hope the full game doesn't get *too* difficult, I'm a puzzle enjoyer but also a puzzle wimp

just got done playing the first half of Reason & Rhyme, a 2-player puzzle game where each player has an inequal access to input, and the visuals that choreograph input. it's proximity chat, so your friend runs off to explain things and sounds muffled. also, sometimes u suck and they don't need u >:(

The controls are actually the most unique part of the game (although I guess the setting is pretty unique too?)

I know I said our game is "only 1 texture"* but also it's "100% springs"* *some caveats apply

Springs: a game devs best friend!

Walaber dither in pocket workstation. A texture holds 7 rows of hand-drawn dither patterns, 9 possible shades and 9 colors. The shader clamps the light incidence to the 9 dither shades (there's no lights in pw so it's just a vec3). Go check @walaber.com 's Reason and Rhyme! #pocketworkstation

Take on Me filter in Godot!! Pen-and-ink style compositor effect with real vector polylines. Normal-Driven Hatching and Depth-Based Contours in Godot Compute Shaders. I've had the idea for a while now and decided to try it out. I'm very happy with the result. And it's fast too. #gamedev #godot

We did break our "9 colors only" rule though (for a good reason)

My pitch for our game releasing Oct 15: “Reason and Rhyme” *no shade on Overcooked that game is a masterpiece, I was just trying to emphasize that our game isn’t as stressful/intense 😅

I asked Chad what he got done from the task list and he sent me this video 🤣

Many people still don’t know that I made a massive modern JellyCar game that’s widely available and filled with all the old content + lots of new as well! “JellyCar Worlds” www.walaber.com/jellycar

The original JellyCar was released 19 years ago today! Thanks to everyone who has enjoyed the game over the years, JellyCar is a special game that gave me the career I have today ❤️

Thank you so much for having me on! Minor correction, I was just a level designer on Toy Story 3, definitely not a lead 😅

one thing you learn from making a lot of things is that the nitty gritty details, the millions of tiny invisible decisions, ARE the art. The "higher level ideas" are not nearly as important or interesting

"AI lets you focus on the higher level ideas!!" because we all grew up dreaming of becoming managers and CEOs we all know the real artists at the very highest level are the shareholders, famously full of amazing ideas

Math is cool! Coded a basic Hilbert curve (2D) for the first time yesterday working on potential puzzles for TurtleCAD 3D.

It was fun to make these parallax dioramas seem impossibly thin with stencil buffer fakery

A photo to remember your online co-op puzzle adventure! Out October 15, wishlist on Steam 🦆📸🦆

I’m working on a somewhat follow-up to Replicube called TurtleCAD 3D that’s essentially a 3D extension of LOGO packaged into a puzzle game/toy/tool

Furniture Catalog revisions! This is the way players can get detailed progress information in the game. I’m going to continue to work on this on my stream today (twitch.tv/walaber)
