We're talked a little about Your Party Blows Ass, but what is it? YPBA is a game about literally fighting your anxieties by beating the shit out of your inner demons Half party-explorer with quirky characters to talk to, half hack-and-slash where you fight to survive a normal adult conversation.

However, you can't always avoid your anxieties forever, and if our little hero stumbles across a particularly anxiety-inducing situation, (such as talking to a love interest, or being invited to dance) they try to handle it by abstracting the anxiety into something they can beat. literally.

Inside the main character's mind, you'll endure frantic bullet-hell hack-and-slash combat in a one-on-one fight against a representation of your inner demons. Surely actually beating up your anxieties is how you beat them, right? At least it's cheaper than therapy.

In order to make the game shine, we needed to make sure each part of the game felt distinct, fun, and interesting. For the party, we're focusing in on quirky interactions with queer critters, pulling from personal experiences of bad parties, strange guests, and charmingly weird social experiences.

So while exploring (And trying to leave) the party, you'll chat with strange characters, have funny interactions, feel compelled to complete social obligations (Our quest system) to help other guests, and just try to avoid having a Bad Time™ at an Australian house party.

Of course, the game jam is more of a prototype-scale project, and if we were going to make the game shine, we needed to make more than a few small tweaks. Such as rebuilding the game from the ground up. And making the combat not shit. But as a full project we have time to make the game special!

Thanks for those that came to our panel at Aurawra @aurawra.org to learn more about game development! Those that did even got to glimpse some insider looks at our currently in-development title; Your Party Blows Ass! We hope you had as much fun as we did!
