Excited to see this project finally come together πŸ₯³ I used the timing of nucleolar assembly at the 8-cell stage as an assay for concentration-dependent phase separation (doi.org/10.1016/j.cu...), but could never explain why they don't appear at the 4-cell stage. Now we know!! πŸ€“

The nucleolus is the largest condensate in the nucleus and the site where ribosomes are built. It has no membrane. It assembles by phase separation, components demixing from the nucleoplasm into a droplet. So what decides when it forms? 🧡πŸͺ±πŸ’§ www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Back in Montreal, wistfully going back through photos from #kitp πŸ₯Ή I'm sure the Tower Room is spectacular in every season, but I'm struck by how different it looks in July 🀩 compared to the "June gloom"...

I have discovered the Tower Room @kitp-ucsb.bsky.social ... and I may never leave 😍🌊🌴

Took us until the end of Week 5 to take a group picture πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ, so we're missing a number of key participants. But what a wonderful group of thoughtful and creative people to talk science with! Thanks for joining us at #KITP! πŸ€“

Great opportunity!

For the third talk in this session @csmb-scbm.bsky.social, we're hearing more about intrinsically disordered regions in the nucleolus from Omid Gholamalamdar, a postdoc in the Weber lab @weber-lab.bsky.social

You are up to date.
