Lots of people were scoffing at the Kennedy Expwy article saying just take transit. I cannot emphasize enough how broken the CTA is and what a miserable experience it is being a daily user. I just had to hop in an uber because the blue line is on a 25 min headway to Forest Park. It’s absurd.

A 25 minute headway in this city is inexcusable. And it happens all the time. All the time. Some people have a 25 minute commute period, let alone waiting for the train and then enduring the achingly slow travel time wedged between smokers and crazy people. And now I’m out 20 bucks.

This whole system is hanging by a thread every single day, there’s no redundancies and all it takes is a “sick passenger” at Clark and Lake or taking out the Lake St bridge to upend the whole system. It is an antiquated model train with choke points masquerading as a transit system. Over it.

Been hunting for a good public garden in Chicago, which I’m discovering is surprisingly sparse in the public garden department. Anyway, here’s Prairie Ave - once Chicago’s millionaires row. These are all contemporary but gotta say that I wish we built new stuff like this all over the city.

I remember when Biden’s job numbers would come in at 250k and they were “disappointing”, “tepid”. Trump gets 75k and it’s “robust” and “hot”. Glad to see CNN call it out, these numbers suck because the economic theory of Republicans is based on looting.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

CNN on the last jobs report before the midterms: "It came in cold -- surprisingly cold. Job growth weaker than expected, unemployment unexpectedly went up, and paychecks aren't keeping up with prices. This was disappointing all around."

This needs to be said more and more. The weaponizing of gentrification terminology is leading to terrible outcomes for cities - it reinforces segregation, gatekeeps generational wealth building, contributes to the housing crisis, etc. Neighborhoods are not static and shouldn’t be.

Neighborhood-level nativism is a bad look.

If you’re posting publicly the assumption is you’re open to feedback and discussion from others. Acting like someone has swooped in on your dms or a private discussion is weird behavior. I realize everyone is angry and in a bad mood but civility is a virtue and just be nice unless given a reason.

Has no one in the media picked up on the fact that the President of the United States is charging $88,600 for a photo op? It’s straight up Nazi code and it seems to either not have been noticed or it’s getting a pass. It’s incredibly blatant.

Any other Chicagoans feeling like summers here are becoming over programmed? I feel like for months I have struggled to find any kind of chill quiet public space. It is nonstop concerts, events, festivals, parties, PA systems, constantly day or night, every corner of the city.

Spines melted into puddles on the floor. Blitzer just sitting there smirking and doing nothing. No one walks out no one claps back. They just sit there and take it. The state of American journalism has got to be one of the biggest problems in society right now. Just total lapdogs.

Every “journalist” at this dinner should hang their heads in shame.

Been a struggle to enjoy the summer so far but tonight was pretty good before the smoke rolled in again. I forget that this iconic pavilion used to be parking lots and railroad tracks. Hard pressed to think of a better civic space with a better view in the country. #chicago

And then the Democrats wonder why no one wants to vote for them. What horseshit.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Breaking news: Colorado’s Democratic governor granted clemency to Tina Peters, a former county clerk convicted on charges related to a scheme to bolster President Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

If you look at the philosophical influences behind people like Yarvin, bronze age pervert, Thiel, Musk, etc and the general nihilism and accelerationism inspiring this administration and their reaction to perceived wins from the feminist/lgbtq movement everything that is going on is totally expected

I think the problem on the left isn’t a lack of influencers it’s being perpetually stuck in a reactive crouch instead of investing in the intellectual and philosophical movements and framework to forcefully offer up an alternative to what is a pretty organized and scary neo fascist movement.

U.K. might lose a prime minister because a guy who worked for him knew another guy who hung out with Epstein. Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.

Hate to feel this way but this really feels like Americans are going to realize what is really going on when it’s way too late. This isn’t about reform or abolition, we are way past that and we’re going to find out much sooner than later just how bad things are. We are missing the moment.

ICE has now carried out two summary executions of innocent people in the streets of an American city. If you work for ICE, there's no denying that's the mission you're supporting now. You don't get to claim in one year or ten or twenty that you didn't know what ICE was doing. You're complicit.

There is evil and then there is this

Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed. www.startribune.com/detained-by-...
