Someone shared this with me the other day, and it’s a great example of why college admissions has gotten more difficult at schools that were not considered competitive a generation ago

Had to read twice to make sure it wasn’t an Onion article

Well, at least they had a winning record

I am very clearly not saying Morey is free from criticism or that the team is currently in good standing. My initial post was about the idea the Sixers were trending in the right direction before he took over, which is categorically untrue

My general assessment of the college landscape for the future college class of 2029 is that, unsurprisingly, it’s gotten even more difficult to gain acceptance into selective colleges.

Gee, how come…

One-year-ahead and five-year-ahead inflation expectations rose in the University of Michigan consumer survey to 3.3% and 3.2%, respectively. "Concerns over the future trajectory of inflation were visible throughout the interviews and were tied to beliefs about anticipated policies like tariffs."

No, when he says paying the US government he’s actually talking about the company paying him directly as a bribe. This is always how he thinks.

Can someone remind me what it’s called when the government seizes private businesses?

It’s sad that this even has to be a thing

Parents/Relatives, Do the teenagers a favor this holiday break and don’t directly asked them where they applied and got accepted in front of others. Let them decide which colleges they want to talk about and to whom.

Aren’t we all, at times, stuck in a tree?

An image of a squirrel stuck in a tree has been named the overall winner of this year’s Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, with a frog in a bubble and a bream chasing a bald eagle among the category winners. Read more: cnn.it/4is35Fx

If any of you are parents of teenagers applying to college, just know that they’re going through some things right now as they’re waiting for decisions to be released. Just know that their decision is out of their control, and don’t press them to “find out” or “find out why”.

As the saying goes, why you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. Stick to your mission statement and refer back to it when challenged.

Universities are now in a semi-permanent reactive position, forced to satisfy contradictory demands: Why don’t you allow free speech? Why don’t you punish X kind of speech? Why do you teach X? Why don’t you teach Y? Why don’t you offer X programs? Why haven’t you eliminate Y programs? 1/2

International admit rates are much lower than rates for domestic students, so it’s not like they’re taking up seats of more worthy students. Furthermore, many of these schools are “needs aware” for intn’l students, meaning they have to pay full price.

UMass/Amherst (left) and Wesleyan University are both warning their international students to be on American soil before noon on Jan 20 -- Inauguration Day.

This type of stuff doesn’t ever need to make the news if people in authority just use common sense and a little bit of compassion

We have over 5,000 colleges and universities in the United States. If you don’t like the culture of one school, don’t apply there. This is one of the important variables when we talk about college fit.

As contempt for cancel culture and self-censorship on college campuses continues to drive a political divide across the country, Jon Wertheim reports on a new start-up university, the University of Austin. Sunday on 60 Minutes ⏱️

Interesting conversation today during my fly-in to Gettysburg College: There is actually a negative incentive for private colleges to have lower sticker prices, as students/parents perceive them “not as good” if they’re cheaper than their competition. Yet, the large majority of families

End result: A liberal arts college will show a sticker price of $90,000. Students then apply knowing they can’t afford that but hope to get merit/need based aid so the bottom line is more “reasonable” - ~$45,000/year (still a lot!)

UCF released its decisions last night for its first ever early action round. 33,000 applicants 17,000 accepted fall admission 4,000 deferred 2,200 offered an alternative pathway Fall admits had an average 4.5 GPA and 1330 SAT score 20 years ago this was nowhere near the norm for this school.

To add to more frustration for students applying to colleges is when they list “optional” supplemental essays. You’re telling me some kid is going to get accepted to NYU without writing that essay?? Bs.

Attended a conference recently where the topic was AI in the college admissions process. Imagine college essays being written by AI, submitted to the college, and the admissions team using AI to evaluate the application. AI evaluating AI…must be mind blowing for any traditionalist.

You are up to date.
