Been working on this event for awhile! Glad it has come together! Thread for registration details (we’ve opened to non-members). I relish talking research methodologies + when it comes to my own research, have been pointedly asked many times: "why should we care about this person*?” soo here we go!

One common approach to feminist film historiography is studying the careers of individual workers. This may take the shape of excavating forgotten figures, closely reading creative output, or celebrating exceptional figures who achieved success amidst inhospitable environments, among others.

Methods in doing so vary depending on historical, industrial & national contexts, as well as extant materials. This roundtable gathers researchers studying the careers of Dorothy Arzner, Judith Crawley, Barbara Loden, Rosina Prado & Anna May Wong to share & reflect upon their own methodologies.

Women built early Hollywood from the ground up. The story of how they were written out of it is just as important as the story of what they created. Who were Hattie Tabourne, Elizabeth McGaffey, Julia Heron, and Viola Lawrence? 1/4

It's here! Go and pre-order a copy of ARCHIVING THE PAST for yourself and for your library! The book uncovers the story of women in France who, from the 1920s–1970s, played critical roles in the production of global cinema's history, as archivists, witnesses, and activists. @ucpress.bsky.social
