57 years ago, Judy Griffin's car broke down en route to Woodstock. She poked her head inside a nearby 1967 VW Beetle to ask for a ride... and found Jerry Griffin sitting in the backseat. More than half a century, two sons and five grandchildren later, the couple still haven't left each other's side.
The best part of this serendipitous love story? The Griffins didn't have actual proof of their fairy tale beginning as recently as 2019. But then GBHβs AMERICAN EXPERIENCE released the trailer for its "Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation" doc. Sure enough, there they were.
The doc is streaming in full on the PBS app + online.
Two years ago, Jim Faust lost his son, Adam, to addiction. Jim found solace in fly fishing, rooting himself in the peace and calm of nature. Then, he decided to share that solace with people facing similar struggles by starting a nonprofit where he teaches fly fishing to those in addiction recovery.
Faust to @gbhnews.bsky.social: "When [Adam] got into recovery β and he had two years and two months in recovery β he devoted his life to helping other people who were seeking recovery... He's still with me. He's with us right here, I can promise you. But then came, how do we move forward?"
Michelle King to @gbhnews.bsky.social: "So I grew up in Boston and I actually did not start driving until my mid-20s. And I had Makai when I was 20. So I would take the T a lot with him. I want to say around 3 years old, I noticed that he really enjoyed it."
Makai already has his favorite @mbta.com station platform (Boston Landing), can recognize each rail line by chime sound, and has thoughts on changes he would implement (ramps instead of mini-highs). Catch his first ever radio interview. ‡οΈ

"What can we do to make sure our democracy survives for 250 more years?" "The current leadership needs to empower the next generation." Hannah Jane Kilduff: "He was the man you could look for in the crowd who would stop at nothing to help make you feel better. My dad represents everything our world can be if we look out for each other β if we reach out to help first, and ask questions later." Via @gbhnews.bsky.social.
The U.S. Postal Service first printed 12 million copies of the Fred & King Friday XIII design in 2018. They sold out within just a few weeks. Viewers like you voted to bring him back during this year's Stamp Encore Contest. Just one more way our beloved neighbor has left his mark on the world. π
Frank was the first member of Congress to voluntarily publicly come out as gay, which he did in 1987. Recently asked by @gbhnews.bsky.social if he wished he could do over any part of his career, he replied: "I would have come out earlier."
