This is bananas, and utterly predictable considering at least half the people identifying as Christians are in it to feel superior to others and wield power over others.

NEW: Paul Newby, a born-again Christian, has turned his perch atop North Carolina’s Supreme Court into an instrument of political power. Over two decades, he’s driven changes that have reverberated well beyond the borders of his state. By @dougbockclark.bsky.social

I went to Mammoth Music and arts fest in Newport KY this weekend. It was a great time. I was impressed with how many different types of folks turned out. There were memaws, hippies, families with kids, and local music scene folks. Really wonderful to see so many folks enjoying each other's company.

In retrospect it was naive to think that knowing history would help humans avoid the same mistakes of the past today. An enduring feature of humanity is that there will always be people who strive to control, exploit, and oppress others. Time and progress are not linked.

I was honored to attend a Hindu engagement ceremony between a couple where one very Catholic Westside family came together with a Hindu family from Hyderabad. In this political climate people are still warmly embracing those who are different everyday. This regime cannot withstand us united.

Over the past few years, I’ve been fascinated with one of the largest federal investigations happening in Georgia, known as Operation Blooming Onion. So I partnered with Zaydee Sanchez to uncover the untold story of an unnamed victim at the heart of the case. 🧵

remember folks, we cant have gun restrictions because if we do the federal government will occupy our streets, imprison people without due process, ship dissidents to foreign gulags and things of that nature

I am just finishing with As I Lay Dying, and my god. Reading it reminds me that there's no recompense for families with a stupid patriarch. Anse Bundren has multiplied himself to such a degree that we're all getting our leg hacked off.

“Once people get a taste for humiliating, they will fight very hard to be able to keep doing it. Like an addiction, the competitively powerful will often put this urge above all else and behave in profoundly self-destructive ways to chase it.” www.liberalcurrents.com/the-politi/

liberalcurrents.comThe Politics of HumiliationThe politics of humiliation has moved to the center of the reactionary project under Trump II.

Easily the most predictable thing happened, these conspiracy theorists now in official government roles are suddenly no longer conspiracy theorists. It's almost as though they secured attention online cynically. Conspiracists need to get cracking on their own conspiracy peddlers.

The BBB is a disaster. I think Republicans do not fear retribution from voters because the media environment ensures that they will never be held accountable. Bias for now will memory hole it. Fox News will never tell gramps Republicans took his healthcare www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

theatlantic.comThey Didn’t Have to Do ThisBy passing Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, congressional Republicans have talked themselves into an incomprehensibly reckless plan.

As a culture, we're fixated on what people say they are doing. Journalists should stop considering what people say, and rather focus on what they do. Humans rarely tell the truth about themselves and what they're about. Watch their actions. Sincerely, a survivor of epic gaslighting.

It's wild to me that Republicans once again ran on culture wars, and once again are cutting social services and giving more money to already rich people. They've been on this since the 80's. They have no new solutions. Just be awful to brown people. Put down women. And reverse Robinhood.

Pete Hegseth saying his "war fighters" are primed for lethality is wild. Bro is bragging to Congress that he's gonna have Americans killing other Americans. The most bananas thing about this admin is that it is every fever dream Ruby Ridge extremists have had rolled into one.

The worst thing religion has done to us is cultivate and support the belief that the only way humans can bring out their best is by coercion and suffering. This belief sanitizes cruelty into piousness. Most of us thrive when we're safe and supported.

Why with the articles on Biden's cognition? I didn't support Biden's second run for president. The Dems who wanted to silence all of us down about our concerns in this regard were wrong. He is out of office, and the current administration is fascist. Journalists, get your priorities straight.

I am not sure why any journalist talks to anybody from the Trump regime. The words they say have no relationship to reality. If information needs to reflect verifiable facts, and journalists are purveyors of information, there's zero value in quoting fantasies.

Bro podcasters need to take responsibility for their reach. NYT has 10 mil subscribers but Joe Rogan gets 200 mil downloads per month. Theo Von gets 125 mil. The bros ARE the mainstream media. CNN online gets 1/2 mil nightly viewers, and MSNBC gets 1.1 mil nightly viewers.

Folks into Republican Jesus are miserable. They hate themselves and want everyone to be just as miserable as they are. That's why they gleefully pursue ghoulish policies that do nothing but grind people up. Focused on the afterlife, they ruthlessly extinguish joy now.

It's also always a terrible idea to try and turn back the clock. Afghanistan did, and how is that going for them? The only reason men in power there persist is through cruelty, fear, and silencing critics. Humans living under that sort of coerced control are incapable of bringing their best.

I think when people long for more manufacturing here it's the 50's version of that. Where every working man had a house and a car. But without strong unions what we will get is the Guilded Age. Child labor. Sweat shops. Triangle shirtwaist fire. Unsafe grueling working conditions AND poverty.
