An abundance of South Florida native flowers and fruits synchronized with Fall’s #Bird🪶Migration. Here temperate zone and Caribbean plants converge—though most species pictured were brought by birds from from the islands. 🌿 #Habitat #HardwoodHammock #NativePlants #Miami 🌱

Thanks @thekentacorn.bsky.social for this by Blake: “The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing which stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity, and by these I shall not regulate my proportions; and some scarce see nature at all.” 🌿🌱🪶🐝

“But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself. As a man is, so he sees.” – William Blake, from his communications with the Reverend John Trusler, 1799 🌿🦋🦑🐳🫍🐛

Fascinating thread on Queen bumblebees—how they develop, prepare for winter, hibernate, successfully mate—all essential for a new colony. 🐝

You’ve been seeing very large #bumblebees on the wing for the past while. Why? Okay I’ll tell you why in this quick thread if you promise to #repost as the more people who know that these are queens the more likely that someone will help some out meaning more colonies next year. Deal? 1/15 #bees

Our sub-tropical rainy season making Fall flowers, or Man in the Ground, Ipomea microdactyla, preparing for pollinators. Opened flowers appear in the profile photo. #NativePlants #Habitat #Migration #UrbanGardening #Miami 🦉🌿🌱

So grateful for next door neighbors who have the most handsome baby [really] and don’t complain when my tangle of native vines drops leaves on their steps. 🙏

After three days of King Tides and heavy rain today, Biscayne Bay appears to be moving into Miami. More extreme high tides are forecast later in October and in November. (Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Coral Gables, this morning.)

We were here because another user had given us an invitation code. [If we could go back to that, maybe Elon Musk—and avatars— would stop staking on here.]

Dear Bluesky Elders, Tell us stories of the days when Bluesky was fun.

One of many Xylocopa micans, Southern Carpenter Bees, on Varronia bullata in Key Largo 9/20/26. Due to recent rains, this shrub was at its fragrant, flowering peak and covered with wasps, hover flies, and at least 3 bee species. #Bees #NativePlants #Habitat

😎 If you’re a creature of pure light—yes—chartreuse is great camouflage! She allowed a phone pic, but as soon as I retrieved a serous camera—poof 💨—she was gone. #Butterflies #Invertebrates #BugSky 🌿 #NativePlants 🌱 #KeyLargo

Somehow this appeared on my BlueSky feed months ago, and I’m thankful I ordered the English edition. As a life-long student/recovering instructor of literature, I can be far too critical to enjoy reading. This work is an exception. It’s written with a light touch that disguises its weight.

A Prairie Warbler dining in the high, lacy foliage of Wild Tamarind, a South Florida native tree hosting several butterfly species + attracting tiny insects for a bird buffet. #ThickTrunkTuesday #Birds🦉#NativePlants #KeyLargo #FoodWeb Https://www.fnps.org/plant/lysiloma-latisiliquum#gsc.tab=0

Sunlight, verdant foliage, nectar, a butterfly, a metallic bee, a dragonfly—all signs of a happy place full of life. Feel free to revisit as often as needed, particularly on a Monday. 🌿🌱🦋 #NativePlants #Habitat #CrocodileLakeNationalWildlifeRefuge #KeyLargo #NoSpray

More of this, please.

"SPAIN is leading calls for the EU to tax private jets and the profits of fossil fuel companies to bankroll a Europe-wide climate resilience fund, including extra money to fight wildfires" Excellent idea, and importantly, avoids the Norway problem where widespread fossil $$ makes us ❤️🛢️

Sunshine Mimosa (Mimosa strigillosa) celebrating Sunday. It pops up overnight, a delicate puff, filaments glowing, offering fresh pollen to tiny flyers. (Said to host the Gray Mini-streak.) Enjoy its glow now, as it will not last to sundown. 🌿🦋🌱 #NativePlants #Habitat #Bloomscrolling

Good trouble.

We will march as Dad marched and continue building the Beloved Community he envisioned: a nation where every person can live with dignity, opportunity, freedom, and justice. #MarchOnWashington2026

We need art’s transcendence now more than ever. When we look at or touch it, each time we allow it to draw our attention, this work offers joy. Consider supporting this Canadian artist if you’re able:

An update for my friends in the USA. Maybe I can still sell pottery tariff free to the US 🤷‍♂️ But I risk having to pay the 50% tariff. ☹ If you still want to support my work you can do so here. Please share if you can. I have opened my store again to Canadians. rakupottery.ca/support-a-ca...

Good night; sleep tight BlueSky tribe. Let’s keep looking for the light. 🧡 (Okavango Delta, Botswana, 2022, with the best of humans who today turned a corner. In the photo we are off center, and that’s ok.)

An August day when the Snowberry (Chiococca alba) is in full flower, 20ft. high into the trees, and the panicles of fairy-bell flowers are so fresh they cancel the silly heat index. The Snowberry Clearwing moth may be around earlier in the day, so I’ll be back. #NativePlants 🦋🌿 #ReWild

Eye spots may have saved this one—today. Tomorrow it may be a 🐦‍⬛ meal. Torn wings say, “I’m key in the food web.” Butterflies and moths nurture, sustain interconnected lives on 🌎. Photo @rmj827.bsky.social #NativePlants, #Habitat #Butterflies 🦋🌿 #Rewild #Preserve #Food🕸️

The mangroves are filled with a troop of furry beings absorbed in a death-defying, dizzying ritual of flying through, between, along branches—and softly “chuffing” at each other. “Each day for a squirrel is its very first day of being a squirrel.” 🌿 #Mammals #NativePlants #Habitat #SwuirrelSaturday
