I told an American friend once that my city was a jungle of concrete 13+ storey condo hives, where millions of people would live. He made a disapproving face. And I get it, most of us were complaining about lack of parks, infrastructure etc. as well. We were not homeless though 🤷‍♀️

The take I am most certain of that gets me in the most trouble is just "The reason homes are so expensive is because there are not enough of them, so we really really really need to build more of them."

We have another problem though: concrete jungle with lack of fresh air, no parking and barely any green parks keep invading botanic gardens, school playgrounds and historically significant places of 1500+ y.o. city.

If your HOA doesn't allow for your house to look like this: with a bountiful backyard of home-grown produce and a cherry tree garden - it doesn't deserve to exist. Perfect house, I used to live in one that looked exactly like that. #stalker2

Hahaha, I just realized - I often complain supermarket produce is tasteless and bland. People probably think I'm a spoiled kid. Thing is when I was a kid, we grew our own food and caught fish to survive 🤷‍♀️ And nothing ever tasted better than fresh tomato from the garden 🤤

I highly recommend original sound + subtitles for ultimate immersive experience. I mean, English dubbing is ok, but original voice actors are just SO good and more appropriate for the atmosphere. 😍

We go from house to house, sing songs and throw wheat at the porch. We also sing Shchedryk (carol of the bells). Malanka tradition predates Christianity and was for celebrating New Year, which was usually closer to spring. Shchedryk lyrics mention birds coming back, upcoming sowing season etc.

Also: when you see a disabled person struggling to cross the road, you help them, not close your eyes. I was shocked to find out this NOT the norm here in the west when I moved. Just in case if anyone needed a reminder: this is NOT OKAY when everyone pretends not to notice a person in need.

Because when you see crap going on, you do something to change it, you boycott it at the very minimum. You act, like a responsible person, not dig your head into sand and pretend it's not happening.

More so: everyone looked like I'm the weird one trying to help them. Back at home there would be a line of people helping. Out of nowhere. Not because they're good people, but because that's how everyone does and did it for generations.

So I've just discovered a ridiculously fast and simple way to enjoy Adjaruli-like goodness in just 5 minutes! Recipe in alt text. IMPORTANT: toast bread does NOT work with this. Too sweet, wrong texture, ruins the taste harmony. Chiabata or similar square buns from Safeway - ✅

obviously it's not as good as the real Adjaruli (which is a masterpiece), but ever since you try one you'll have Adjaruli cravings from time to time and they might find you in the middle of a very busy day when baking is not really an option. this is when I make one of these 🤤
