paulkrugman.substack.com/p/sabotaging... A must read, especially the final line. The New York Times would never have let him say that.
I haven’t seen it yet, but I will after reading this.
I think an American flag created entirely by black men at the Superbowl is one of the best pieces of art I've seen in my lifetime. I hope it actually killed some folks. And I hope it finally closes the fucking book on the argument that we shouldn't use the flag to fight the God damned fascists.

Great thinker, great writer! Here’s the first chapter of his book, which will give you a sample to savor. Hasn’t been a writer that shows you new ways to think since Bill James in the late ‘70s-early ‘80s. And that was baseball specifically, while Brian’s world is the universe. Enjoy!
The paperback version of my book FLUKE is out in a few days. I’ve posted the entire first chapter free to read here, in case you’d like a little peruse. www.forkingpaths.co/p/the-entire...
This!
I've grown fond of this place! But to ward against the possibility that Bluesky might one day collapse into a social media black hole, you should preemptively subscribe to my newsletter, which has free & paid options. And you can always find me (& the newsletter) via my website at andreapitzer.com.
Weekly reminder that this is FREE! Take the 10 minutes or so to read it. If you like his writing the subscription is free also.
The newest edition of my free weekly newsletter just came out. It is about September 11, it's a real free-good one. You should subscribe, I promise, it is not always about September 11. williamfleitch.substack.com/p/volume-5-i...
Once again, an encouragement to follow and subscribe to one of the brightest thinkers and writers currently working. Or at least subscribe to the free content. If you agree, you can pay $5/month to not miss a word. 😁
Hi new followers! Here's the best way to follow my work right now. There are paid and free subscriptions. (I encourage you to fork over some of your coffee money, though, because it's good stuff, and you'll support other people seeing it, too.)
For those that still/might/maybe care, pretty good look at the White/Red Sox trade.
Fully-fleshed story from @brettballantini.bsky.social updated at the link below now, so if you checked in earlier and wondered about the rush-job bare-bones breaking business, drop back in and take a look at some complete player capsules and trade analysis. Or, if you like to harbor grudges, don't.
Once again, if you’re not reading him you’re missing one of the great thinkers and writers of our time.
I wrote about natural experiments: a great social experiment from Britain in 1953; how Russian holidays affect the behavior of online trolls; how the fates of Polynesian society diverged due to their island conditions; and what we can learn from spiders on Guam: www.forkingpaths.co/p/the-world-...
He’s doing this on the backs of full-price subscribers like me! And I don’t mind a bit. The thinking and writing combo is hard to beat, every day of the newsletter is a new adventure. Well worth the price of admission.
Last day for my subscription sale! 20% off Cup of Coffee for a year! How can I offer these prices? Volume! www.cupofcoffeenews.com/mlb-winter-m...
Everything you didn’t want to know about the greatest show on Earth, but should know.
Every now and then I think about this wild Salon story from 2001 investigating whether a circus mogul diverted an investigative journalist from writing about his family by secretly ghost-commissioning a book from her on a different topic, keeping her busy for years.
@sheehannewsletter.bsky.social Thanks for the link in the newsletter. Couldn’t find you before it…
In case you were wondering the origins…
22000 days ago (September 6, 1964), a big day for TOOTBLAN lovers at Comiskey Park. In the second game of a doubleheader, Cleveland makes all three outs in the second inning on the basepaths. Ryan Theriot hadn't been born yet, but was obviously inspired by this game.
Really a great writer and scholar. Give him a try!
Second plug for Part 2 of my #ErrolFlynn essay, the films from 1942 to 1950 — including forgotten gems like ‘Uncertain Glory,’ ‘Never Say Goodbye’ and ‘Rocky Mountain.’ thatsallsiknow.blogspot.com/2024/11/erro... New film essay coming Friday, and it’s as daffy as anything I’ve written. 😅 #FilmSky 🎬📽️
For those that know… 😉
Hey all: the migration of Cup of Coffee to Ghost is complete. I still have some back-end things to do and won't publish a regular newsletter until Monday, but feel free to go play around. Subscribers to check to make sure you can read old paywalled posts, etc. www.cupofcoffeenews.com
Free, great writer/thinker, nothing to lose by subscribing! I think you’ll enjoy…
Issue 447 of my free weekly newsletter just came out. It is about “wokeness,” and just trying to be a good person. The newsletter is free and weekly and features an original essay as well as links to everything I wrote that week. You should subscribe. williamfleitch.substack.com/p/volume-5-i...
What he said! Must reads for sure, from 2 who’ve been there, documented what they saw, resisted where/when possible, and shared with us! Thank you to both!
You should follow @markfallon.bsky.social and when you read the excellent post from @andreapitzer.bsky.social you’ll want to follow her too, and subscribe to her posts
