This past Monday-Sunday was Metro’s fourth-busiest week since 2020 thanks to big events across the region, including the Marine Corps Marathon, which helped set station records at Rosslyn and Pentagon! 🧵

Several other stations like Crystal City, Foggy Bottom-GWU, Court House, Smithsonian, and Arlington Cemetery saw big numbers this weekend, too. Overall, we served nearly 1.3 million trips across Rail and Bus on Saturday and Sunday. Thanks for riding with us!

Tomorrow - Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., trains will single track on the Blue Line between Van Dorn St and Franconia-Springfield for thermite welding, using intense heat to join tracks, replace rail, and remove rail defects. To learn more, visit: wmata.com/weekday

At this week’s Board meeting, we recognized Metro Bus Operator Vonetta Mack for her quick thinking and courage in saving a customer’s life. 👏 When the customer began choking aboard her bus, Operator Mack safely pulled over, administered the Heimlich maneuver and called for emergency assistance.

Reminder that daytime single-tracking continues through tomorrow in select areas on the Orange and Silver lines. Metro is taking advantage of daytime hours when fewer customers are traveling to get critical work done - including rail destressing - ahead of winter. 🧵

Today through Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., trains will single track on the Orange Line between Cheverly and New Carrollton. 🟠 The Silver Line will run modified service between Ashburn and Downtown Largo only.⚪ To learn more, visit: wmata.com/weekday

Weekday, daylight hours provide an ideal window to complete this particular work as doing so overnight can be more labor intensive and costly. This approach also results in fewer weekend impacts while Metro is moving the region to major events.

More customers are tapping and doing their part to keep our region moving! 🚌    From July through September, tap ridership on Metro Bus increased 13% year-over-year, representing 1.2 million trips.

Also, following the launch of the new bus network, bus ridership is up 3% from Q1 FY26 to Q1 FY27. Thank you to our customers for helping us provide safe, frequent, and reliable service.

Today, @wmatagm.bsky.social spoke about the critical need to restore the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding. Without advance appropriations, Metro risks losing $57M a year for critical repairs. 🧵

A short-term spending bill that fails to restore this funding could have long-term consequences for Metro's maintenance backlog. Metro requests that Congress restores transit funding when lawmakers return from recess, before the continuing resolution expires on December 11.

Board Update: Reliable regional transit requires long-term commitment. That’s why our FY2028 budget outcomes include advancing DMVMoves, making targeted investments today to help manage long-term operating costs and build a stronger, more connected future for the entire region. 🧵
