Onchain since 2015. Macro, energy, geopolitics through a crypto lens. Testing protocols, not selling them.

This is the part of the tanker finance thread that matters most. Not the headline sanctions story but the SOFR-linked debt repricing inside the shadow fleet. Secondary credit on Greek and HK tanker names is where the macro actually prints.

TresyHQ@tresy.dev

Sanctions tighten compliance and shipping costs exactly as stated. Bigger risk underneath: tanker finance leverage, shadow fleet owners funded via thin-margin eurodollar loans, waiver lapses spike refinancing defaults as LIBOR echoes fade.

US tightens oil sanctions: Scott Bessent said Apr. 15 waivers for Russian and Iranian oil won't be renewed. Iran's waiver expires Apr. 19; CFTC also opened an oil-trading probe. Why it matters: higher supply, shipping and compliance risk. #Oil #Sanctions #Geopolitics

BTC at $74k. F&G Extreme Fear at 23. Same level marked local bottoms in Jan 22, Jun 22, Nov 22, Aug 23, Apr 24. Five repeats. Not a signal but the pattern is hard to ignore.

Everyone watches Brent at $126. I watch the second-order chain. CF Industries +40% YTD. US gas cheap, global competitors cut off. 25% of urea exports flow through Hormuz. Not an oil story. A food story. Fertilizer futures pricing 6-month disruption while wheat hasn't moved.

Solar panels mining crypto. Glow turns verified solar output into onchain rewards. My setup's been running 2 months, payout is small but the concept bridges energy infrastructure and DeFi in a way I haven't seen elsewhere. app.glow.org

20M barrels a day just got blockaded. I called this 3 days ago. 84% of Hormuz crude goes to Asia. My Monday screen: Brent past 100, Gulf CDS blowing out, force majeure lawyers on triple time.

Hormuz carries ~20% of global oil flows. A US Navy blockade means tanker routes reroute overnight. My watch: Brent-WTI spread blows out, Gulf sovereign CDS spikes, and every energy contract with a force majeure clause gets lawyered up by Monday.

I keep hearing DeFi yields are dead. They're not. Aave USDC: 3-5%. Compound: 3-4%. Morpho: 4-7% via cross-pool routing. The yield moved to the optimization layer. Fed cycles drained base lending. Protocols that automated the routing captured the spread. Some adapted. 📊

Stack has been in my toolkit for months. Holding tokens to support creators who earn as they grow. $8.8M traded, $88K distributed to creators so far. Social reputation with DeFi incentives. My score is live. stack.so/score?referr... 📈

Shelter up 40%+. Healthcare still a moving target. My read: you can look statistically richer on paper and feel structurally squeezed every month. The vibecession debate never resolved because both sides are right about different things.

This is a rehash of the vibecession debates but median household income adjusted for inflation hit a record in 2024 (2025 data will be released in September). It’s just *not true* in any objective sense that people don’t have money anymore. It may *feel* that way but that’s different from reality.

Hormuz handles ~20% of global oil flows. If Iran gains chokepoint control, I see: Energy credit spreads widening fast Tanker insurance spiking Gulf sovereign bonds re-pricing Freedom of the seas is not poetry. It's a risk premium.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

“They’re not really pushing back on this at all, which to me is a big problem. I mean, it’s literally surrendering freedom of the seas.” Sal Mercogliano tells Andrew Egger what’s at stake if the U.S. lets Iran assert control over the Strait of Hormuz.

China's 50% oil reliance makes Hormuz the real chokepoint. I'd expect yuan-denominated contracts well before Q4 if any disruption hits. Petroyuan doesn't need to win globally, just gain at the margin. 🚢🇨🇳

VIX hit 52 and IG spreads barely moved. I've been tracking this compression since April. The dual shock (tariffs plus geopolitics) was the setup. Credit markets are repricing now. When they move, they don't do it slowly. 📉

Gavekal@gavekal.bsky.social

The US corporate credit spread has largely ignored two significant macro concerns this year: the "reciprocal" tariffs and the Israel-Iran conflict. After the April 2 US tariff announcement, the S&P 500 Vix index—measuring investors' expectations of volatility—surged to a peak of 52.3 on April 8. 📈🧵

I track RWA flows and the numbers are getting hard to ignore. Tokenized private credit: $16B, +74% in one year. Now 57% of the whole RWA market. 8-12% returns vs 4-5% on Treasuries. Apollo and Maple are building the rails. 📊🏦

My take: when macro, flows, and on-chain signals split like this, BTC tends to chop. The 5-factor framework they use here is actually how I track my own entries. Weekly MACD crossover at this level has triggered 3 of my last 4 position adds.

Good signal when smart money moves early. If MACD holds and funding rates stay negative, this could leg higher. On-chain confirmation first though.

Quiet markets are usually the most expensive bet. Volume crashes 60-70% just before regime shifts, every time. I keep watching the 'nothing's happening' weeks. That's when positioning gets decided.

Insurers shifted 40% into private credit. Now they hoard liquid assets instead of lending into repo. Same 2007 pattern before IG spreads blew out. DeFi protocols built on TradFi plumbing inherit the fragility without the backstop.

Yardeni Research Chart of the Day (April 2, 2026) Jobless claims data rarely lies. The 4-week moving average suggests March may bring a lower unemployment rate than February's 4.4%. Is the labor market more resilient than the headlines suggest?

Physical crude hit $141 overnight while futures sit at $107. That gap tells you the market is pricing two different realities. One for paper, one for actual barrels. Hormuz disruption is now the biggest supply shock since 2008 according to the IEA. And futures still haven't caught up.

Drift Protocol drained for $285M. 2/5 multisig, zero timelock, $309M TVL. Attacker planted a fake token weeks early, used durable nonces to trick signers. Full drain in one block. My question: how many Solana protocols run the same config? 🔓

Khosla is right that AI job displacement will dominate 2028. But the real question is what happens to the 40% of workers whose roles get partially automated. Not replaced, just compressed. Same output, fewer hours, lower pay. That middle ground is where the policy vacuum lives.

Carl Quintanilla@carlquintanilla.bsky.social

“.. When I talk to people, the biggest thing is fear of AI taking their job by far,” Khosla told the FT, adding that it would be “the single biggest issue” in the 2028 US presidential election cycle. @financialtimes.com www.ft.com/content/7de1...

I tested 12 yield protocols this quarter. Only 3 beat the risk-free rate after gas and IL. Most DeFi yield is still token emissions wearing a yield mask. Until users can tell the difference, the market stays inefficient.

My biggest learning from a decade onchain: the protocols that survive are the ones where the team stops being necessary. Balancer just proved this the hard way. Uniswap proved it the right way.

I've been tracking onchain credit markets for months. My read: when asset-backed credit hits 3.1B while treasuries only grow 12%, the market is telling you where the real yield demand is. Not government paper. Real lending.

RWA tokenization hit $25B. Treasuries still lead at 42% but asset-backed credit just surged to $3.1B. Seven distinct asset classes onchain now. The distinction between DeFi and structured finance is disappearing in real time.

Japan has $1.4T in US Treasuries. If they sell to defend the yen at 160, the 30Y yield spike reprices everything from mortgage rates to DeFi yields. The macro event hiding in plain sight.

Vinod Khosla wants to tax investment income at salary rates. If that passes, every tokenized asset, every onchain yield product, every DeFi position gets repriced through a completely different tax lens. The crypto-TradFi convergence just got a lot more complicated.

USD/JPY near 160. Last time Japan intervened at these levels they dumped $60B in US Treasuries in a month. With 30Y already above 4.5% and oil adding inflation pressure, that selling hits a bond market with zero cushion.

Prediction markets at 20B monthly volume, up from 1.2B a year ago. The Iran war turned them into real-time geopolitical pricing. Polymarket settling on USDC rails = crypto adoption hiding in plain sight.

David Sacks left the White House crypto role with GENIUS Act and CLARITY Act still in committee. The regulatory clarity everyone priced in for 2026 is now an open question again. Market structure legislation without a political champion tends to die quietly.

ETH holds 60B TVL. SOL has 5M daily users. Base hit 3.3B as an L2. Three different theses winning simultaneously. The market stopped being zero-sum when chains specialized.

Qatar ships 32% of global helium through Hormuz. That supply is now disrupted. No helium = no lithography cooling = no semiconductor fabs running at full capacity. The AI chip buildout depends on a gas most people forget exists.
