Wolf Haven has a fresh new look 👀 over the past 44 years, we have grown tremendously and today, we are excited to share a full rebrand that we feel represents the vibrant nature of Wolf Haven’s sanctuary residents, as well as the grounded and earthy qualities of the work we accomplish together 💚🐺

Enjoy this clip of McCleery wolf Tess trotting off to her safe spot with a massive elk leg bone, generously donated by local hunters! We are so grateful for our thoughtful community partners who make treats like this possible. 💚 #mccleerywolves #enrichment #wolfhaven

While most of our residents ignore the trail cams we use to monitor their health and behavior, wolfdog Mesa is quick to notice even the smallest change to his environment. In this clip, Mesa and his companion, gray wolf Sierra, can be seen inspecting this camera right away!

Today kicks off Wolf Awareness Week 🐺! Every year, organizations, conservationists, educators, and wildlife advocates around the world celebrate the importance of wolves as keystone species. We hope you will join Wolf Haven in celebrating this incredible species all week long!

As fall settles in, elk begin moving with the changing seasons. Bulls become more active as the breeding competition kicks up, and large herds gather to travel across the McCleery Ranch landscape. Sound UP to hear the cow elk mews and bull elk bugles! 🔈

Female wolfdog Meeka (2001–2017) was once a shy and famously picky girl (with the exception of cheese). Thankfully, she blossomed into an indulgent, curious eater who graciously bonded with her enclosure mate, Lonnie. We will always cherish her joyful and curious spirit! #tbt

There’s nothing better than watching our residents enjoy the calm of their surroundings. Male Mexican wolf Hodari (M1458) reminds us why dedicated sanctuary care matters, especially for critically endangered species like the Mexican wolf. #wolfhaven #tenino #endangeredspecies

Today, on Indigenous Peoples' Day, we honor the Indigenous nations whose ancestral lands our sanctuaries call home. As an organization dedicated to sanctuary and conservation, we commit to honoring that legacy by stewarding this land with respect and care for many generations to come.

A huge thank you to our volunteers for preparing some tasty enrichment treats! Biodegradable paper bags filled with goodies were topped with sardines and bison tripe, ensuring named bags went to their specific resident. Our SAFE animals received bison tripe and elk bones instead!

This male pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) can be seen making the most of our native grasses. We hope to continue providing high quality habitat for the many local ungulate species! 🌿 🐾 #mccleerymonday #wolfhaven #pronghorn

Today we honor the legacy of Mexican wolf M1066 Moss (2007-2022). After years as a dedicated father to his 2015 litter with F1099 (Betty), he enjoyed a peaceful Wolf Haven retirement under the firs with F1341 (Sedona). He holds a special place in our hearts forever 💚. Photos by Julie Lawrence.

We love being able to capture quiet, peaceful moments here at our Tenino sanctuary 🐺 While a wide-open mouth can look fierce to some, this big yawn from male Mexican wolf, M1458 (Hodari), is pure relaxation. Drop your best caption for Hodari in the comments below! Photo by Jessica Pellington #wolf

Our nightly raven roost is kicking back up at the sanctuary! 🐦‍⬛ From fall through spring, thousands of ravens descend on McCleery Ranch each evening to pack our wooden posts and wires. GPS data even shows birds flying all the way from Yellowstone National Park and back in a single day.

Cerberus is our newest sponsorable wolf, and he’s settling into sanctuary retirement wonderfully with some impressive howls! Cerberus is currently in a visitor-route enclosure with spunky wolfdog Ellie, who helps him gain more confidence every day.

We are thrilled to be part of the 37th Annual Nisqually Watershed Festival this Saturday, September 26th, from 10 AM to 4 PM! Stop by to learn more about our conservation work and to honor the people, wildlife, and history that shape the Nisqually Watershed!

During our routine maintenance check of the sanctuary’s water valve boxes, we discovered a cozy little surprise: a family of field mice has moved in! We gently placed the lid back down and decided to postpone our work. After all, sanctuary means protecting all our residents, big and small. 🐭💚

Watch the morning curiosity unfold as Billie and Nicky play near the fence line alongside their neighbors Ellie and Cerberus. Both Nicky and Cerberus are brothers who recently made their way to the sanctuary to enjoy their retirement years with their new companions! #teninotuesday #sanctuarylife

Nothing beats a nice, cold sardine-sicle on a hot summer day at McCleery Ranch! Female wolf, Jez, is a big fan of these enrichment treats, which can be made with all sorts of flavors ranging from fish to fruit. #mccleerywolves #yummytreats #enrichment

The prairie and the surrounding woodlands/wetlands at Wolf Haven provide a sanctuary for 60+ bird species. Among them are Tree Swallows (Tachycineta bicolor). Preserving their nesting spaces ensures these seasonal visitors can return year after year! Photos by Gelane Clements.

#TBT to the remarkable Ladyhawk (2000-2016). Rescued from the pet trade as a young wolf, she grew into a stunning silver-furred female with a gracious, confident presence at Wolf Haven. Her sweet smile will forever remain in our hearts! #rememberwhen #throwbackthursday #memories

For today's Tenino Tuesday, we are catching a glimpse of Shasta on a peaceful stroll through the natural brush of the sanctuary. Moments like this remind us of the beauty of quiet observation and the sanctuary space many of the residents call home. 🐾🌲 Photo by Jessica Pellington.

Happy Red Wolf Day! Today marks the anniversary of the American Red Wolf’s return to the wild landscape of North Carolina in 1987. Join Wolf Haven in commending the passionate commitment of those tirelessly working to recover the American Red Wolf! 📸: the beloved F1945 (Nash).

Wolfdog brother and sister duo, Valerian and Tarragon, recently got a new platform that is over twice the size of their previous one... and it took them less than 15 minutes to jump right in and start playing. Enjoy this video of them exploring their new favorite spot! #wolfhaveninternational #play

M1428 (Agave) wants to make his presence known! He urinates so frequently on this same tree that animal care staff sometimes worry about the tree’s health. Whether setting boundaries or leaving updates for his neighbors, this spunky Mexican wolf is a true scent-marking artist.

Resident wolfdog Lore is not quite ready for the long and relaxing weekend to end. Luckily, every day at Wolf Haven offers a quiet place to soak up the sun and go at your own pace! 💚 Photo by Gelane Clements. #restandrelaxation #soakupthesun #longweekend

Red-tailed hawks are permanent residents here at Wolf Haven and can often be heard screeching as they soar over the sanctuary. Typically, they are flying overhead hoping to scavenge bits of leftover meat, proudly earning the title of "opportunistic scavenger". Photo by Jessica Pellington.

#TBT During their 13 years together at Wolf Haven, Lucan (1979-1994) and Clementine (1979-1996) had an unbreakable bond. As Clementine lost her sight, Lucan would regularly help guide her around their enclosure. After Lucan's passing, Clementine carried his memory in every howl.

At Wolf Haven, our animal care team keeps a cupboard of scents ranging from lavender to licorice for enclosure enrichment. In this video, wolfdog Ellie is happily rolling all over some fresh ginger scent! #scentrolling #enrichment #wolfsanctuary

Female wolf, Jez, is watching carefully while animal care staff change out her water bucket. While she and her companion, Tracer, usually prefer to supervise our work from a distance, today she decided to personally observe every move! 👀 #mccleerywolves #happymonday #supervising

In this video, we can see Mexican wolf companions F1361 (Sedona) and M1630 (Darko) showing off their playful side with some friendly roughhousing. Darko joined Sedona back in March after moving from his brother group, and it looks like these two have become quite the duo! 💚

We have so many exciting sanctuary improvement projects underway, and Pam, our fearless Sanctuary Director, is overjoyed to join in the demolition! Here she can be seen officially making room for the upgrades by taking down an old camera box. #sanctuaryupgrades #demolition #behindthescenes

A trail camera recently captured Mexican wolf, F2053 (Magnolia), nonchalantly strolling across her enclosure and showing off some of her best parkour moves! We love to watch the residents explore their habitats and express their natural behaviors. #parkour #caughtoncamera

Thanks to your support, the wolves are beating the heat with brand-new, 6-foot diameter splash tubs, and we are so grateful! In this video, we can see Lakota taking full advantage of these new tubs with a full-body soak! #mccleerywolves #sanctuarylife #splishsplash

Remembering London & Lexi! Transferred to Wolf Haven in 2009, handsome London was known for his friendly spirit. He and Lexi formed an inseparable bond, constantly playing and nuzzling. See the sweet moment they met for the first time in this video!

M1429 (Copal) is the opera star of the sanctuary! Many mornings during rounds, animal care staff can hear him singing his beautiful song. Sometimes, one or two wolves answer him, and other times, he even gets the whole sanctuary to join in. #teninotuesday #howlingwolves

New neighbors here at McCleery Ranch! Recently, "the Trio" (Tess, Bridger & Pryor) moved into an enclosure next to the sibling duo Thing 1 and Thing 2. In this clip, Tess postures confidently up front while her new neighbors celebrate with some energetic wrestling & zoomies!
