to see with a staggering wonder, imagine that you live there. and, that you love it with all your heart. because it is your home. however small of a critter you’d need to be to feel this spot is heaven. don’t move until you see it. practice this often.

Best way to run an election: publicly post every vote. Give each voter a random ID—one sticker on the ballot, one they keep. The full ledger goes online. You look up your vote, confirm it was counted correctly, or prove tampering. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

No central database maps IDs to names. Nothing to hack. Same zero-knowledge principle as password managers. Current processes have no transparency. A public ledger with per-voter verification is simpler, more transparent, and harder to cheat than a closed system. #elections #voting #transparency

Look down. There, scattered across the teeming alpine sphagnum is the geranium. Each unique crimsoning snowflake like fallen stars forged in a brief autumn. They only ask you slow down until you see how each leaf is an unhurried doorway, reminding you that you belong… in this faërie haven. #poem

on the way to the glacial basins of the upper watershed in the high country of the Talkeetna range. known to settlers as the Hatcher Pass/Reed Lakes mining district, north of Palmer, AK.

TheRobotz were swank’n at 203 Kombucha’s Palooza in Palmer today!!! And the Moose Spruce booch was flowing once again!!! ✨🌲 This is my happy place: where making a new friend is as easy as saying hello. ✌️ #TheRobotz #203Kombucha #AlaskaMusic #MatSu #LiveMusic

Eklutna lake, within the homeland of the Dena’ina Athabascan people, the K’enaht’ana. The river was dammed in 1955. A river is a conversation between the mountain and the sea — every salmon was a letter the sea wrote to the forest. The forest waits until the river sings again. #RestoreEklutnaRiver

the colder it gets in anchorage, the windier it gets on little mount susitna. the railbelt needs wind power — in winter, when demand is highest. pumped storage hydro makes eklutna lake a battery, with a path for the fish to climb. the wind carries the river's tune. #RestoreEklutnaRiver #windpower

bella exploring an off trail alaskan pond in the beautiful nancy lake state park. i love how quiet this land is as as most people pass it by on the way to Denali. #happydog 🐾

bella and i exploring a little stream between two lakes in the woods southeast of talkeetna. when we arrived, two happy otters and some ducks were enjoying this remote spot. they beauty of #alaska is so much more than its breathtaking mountains…

i am staying in an amazing log cabin in the #alsaka woods with a serious supply of high quality kombucha from the ‘203 kombucha’ bar in palmer where you can fill up 64oz growlers with delicious boutique flavors. the bar is a fantastic local vibe where making friends is as easy as saying hello! ✌️

i came to #alaska for the mountains but after a few months here, its real beauty is its people. the culture is unlike the lower 48. people here showup and participate. they don’t let worry about being great stop them. the priority is being part of the community. it’s deeply wonderful!!

Where life finds root upon the stone— a seed grateful for driftwood's dust where the ancient cedar's journey ends in a final gift, upon a rock that knows only cold and sun. The forest's slow, eternal breath turns all things to soil in faith of the seed and ever makes a new world from what was lost.

the earth is an embarrassment of riches. the magic of a sunrise is all i really need… the sound on this clip are the happy birds floating in these waters singing their praise for the new day. also several whales were breathing their massive breaths but i could never see them thru the morning mists.

I love them. they are the tallest/oldest beings we know. they inhabit an almost timeless realm where even death lasts longer than most other lives. in a world focused on the fastest, these ancient sentinels build their sandcastles in the sky. always giving. even as they disappear… #treehugger

The emergence of fungi during the Carboniferous period that could break down lignin and recycle carbon back into the atmosphere was necessary for the evolution of vertebrates that eventually led to mammals and, ultimately, humans… I will never look at the fungus growing on trees the same way again!

fungus evolved the ability to generate PODs (which is an earth-changing family of peroxidase enzymes) that cause homolytic cleavage w/in lignin that creates an avalanche of radical cations that continually steal electrons within the lignin!! 🤯

i just today learned that the reason the enormously large insects of prehistory vanished was because the super high levels of atmospheric oxygen suddenly declined because fungus developed a new ability/enzyme to breakdown tree lignins that released previously stored carbon into the atmosphere.

i’m mostlypaddling these days, but found an ancient being on our new island home on an interior hike. and sat with this beauty for a while just admiring its gloryousness and wondering all it has seen…

bella exploring low tide at botanical beach near port renfrew (in the territory of the Pacheedaht and Lkwungen First Nations) yesterday… it was nice to have low clouds misting us on and off as we explored the tidepool mysteries that are so full of urchins and anemones!!

me and bella communing with nature on mount wells amidst the sacred arbutus and oak tree friends. i’m told that the indigenous peoples of the Nuu-chah-nulth nation refer to the arbutus tree as "tl'owit", which I am told means ‘bark tree’. #happydog

bella exploring the juan de fuca trail on western vancouver island with the olympic mountains visible in the far distance #happydog aside from the beauty, i especially appreciated that the temp was only 18 degrees celsius on july 16th.

so grateful to have been on dirt, rock, and snow for 99% of my spring. my non-mountain time has focused on exploring a floodplain along a bend in the nooksack river for hours a day jumping from boulder to boulder in an oldman’s taichi-parkour that causes neurons to sizzle… (see alt txt for more).

spectacular trail magic✨ yesterday! we were hiking in the rain looking for the oldest spruce tree in washington when the sun suddenly pierced the grey day with a vivid brillance like a portal opening into another dimension.

One amazingly obvious, yet overlooked, fact that plants teach us is that being in the right place at the right time means a whole lot… ps. additional thoughts about how this realtes to biological determinism and free will in the alt txt of the picture.
