🦦 Sadly, many otter species are under threat due to the illegal wildlife trade. Life in captivity is no substitute for the wild. Help make a difference: don't share social videos of pet otters and avoid cruel venues such as otter cafes. #WorldOtterDay

We urge the Government to ensure that the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act regulations and the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill are prioritised with a clear plan for implementation. ⁣ ⁣ Let’s make the UK a leader in animal welfare again.

A statement from Peter Kemple Hardy, our Campaigns Director: β€œThese long-promised commitments are widely supported by the British public and are essential to ending the exploitation and suffering of wild animals for tourism and entertainment."

In 2021, the South African government committed to end the captive lion breeeding industry, but progress towards implementing this has been slow. And, with a recent change of environment minister, concerns are growing that this landmark decision could be rolled back.

So, in collaboration with Blood Lions bloodlions.bsky.social, we commissioned new research, to reveal how tourists feel about the cruel industry and whether they would change their travel behaviour if it continues. Read the findings in our latest article πŸ‘‡

Great to bring together MPs, peers and celebrities at the drop-in event we hosted in parliament last week with Born Free Foundation, Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation, Marine Connection, PETA UK, Save The Asian Elephants and Whale and Dolphin Conservation.⁣

We met to explain why the government must urgently implement the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act and headed to Downing Street to deliver a letter to the Prime Minister. It’s time for the government to get their ACT together. Find out more in our latest article:

Together, we're urging the government to finally implement the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act by listing which activities are banned under the legislation that was passed back in 2023. As shockingly, over 2 years later, not a single animal has been protected. More info on this below πŸ‘‡

We're at the Houses of Parliament today alongside other animal welfare charities, urging the government to finalise the Animals (Low Welfare Activities Abroad) Act. 2 years on, we’re still waiting for the activity regulations to be introduced.

Today we’re at the Houses of Parliament with fellow animal welfare charities urging MPs to Get Their ACT Together and finalise the Animals (Low Welfare Activities Abroad) Act.

The Act should stop travel companies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, from selling and promoting cruel wildlife attractions that take place abroad. But sales of tickets to dolphin shows, elephant rides and other cruel entertainment activities continue.

Let TUI Group know how you feel about them continuing to profit from captive dolphin and whale venues. Take action and advocate for this being the last generation of dolphins in captivity. Help us pressure TUI to stop putting money before suffering πŸ‘‡

Great news! πŸ‘πŸ˜ After years of tireless advocacy, elephants across tourist venues in Indonesia will be free from elephant rides. This step taken by the Indonesia government sends a strong signal to the wider tourism industry that we’re entering a new chapter of more responsible wildlife tourism.
