Hello! I hope everyone at the Heritage Classic has a special day of things. Today my baby daughter found a leaf she likes and was excited to carry it around for a while. So we're having a nice time too.

All the best to my #NHLJets media colleagues, Jets fans, bloggers, podcasters, and otherwise passionate Winnipeg-focused hockey people as the Jets start their season today. May your love of the game and its many great stories serve you well this season.

Friedman has mentioned Carolina's exploration of a three team trade for Connor Hellebuyck a couple of times now. I'm told there's sense in that. Alex Nikishin recently switched agents and presumably the new agent, Paul Theofanous, is helping teams gauge Nikishin's signability.

Hurricanes fans may remember me as the fellow who argued in June and July that it would make sense for Carolina to be interested in Hellebuyck because the rising cap is changing the value proposition of "don't spend on goalies." $8.5M is affordable and getting more so each year

If it were to happen, presumably the heart of it would be the Hurricanes getting enough back by way of picks and prospects to assemble the Hellebuyck acquisition cost. Not sure which other players would be involved. I have no sense of imminence, but believe it's being explored.

Josh Morrissey joked that he's lost something like six records overnight. He supports it, though. As does Mark Scheifele, who has always been chasing Dale Hawerchuk whatever the record books used to say.

#NHLJets AHL assignments: G: Isaac Poulter D: Alfons Freij F: Colby Barlow F: Kevin He F: Jacob Julien F: Fabian Wagner F: Lucas Wahlin F: Kieron Walton Released from PTO (free to sign AHL deals) D: Lukas Gustafsson D: Dysin Mayo D: Ashton Sautner F: Davis Burnside

CORRECTION/UPDATE: Lukas Gustafsson, Dysin Mayo, Ashton Sautner, and Davis Burnside had all already signed AHL deals. Those four players will all report to Manitoba Moose training camp, too.

Appreciated Scott Arniel's reason for not telling me more about how the #NHLJets' PK tweaks: "I can't give that to you because everybody reads what you're writing." (😅🙃)

The line change was... Legal? Marjala got a huge head start by jumping off the offensive zone end of Edmonton's bench before his teammate had hopped off the ice on the neutral zone end of it. I think Winnipeg might have been mad if it were the regular season.

Danny Zhilkin showing patience and speed and the ability to -do something- that some of the other youth in this game haven't quite managed. Good moment from him, to be sure... Still don't think anyone battling for a fourth line job has been demonstrably better than Vladislav Namestnikov has been.

I don't like much of what Tyrel Bauer does with the puck but I have more time for his feet and what I perceive to be his reads than I did before camp. Not sure that he helps. Encouraged that he battles (and can find the battles.)

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins wins a draw and Atro Leppanen squeaks a shot through Dom DiVincentiis... But was there goaltender interference on the play? A long delay as the #NHLJets consider a challenge, then let it drop. 1-1.

Alex Iafallo reminding everyone that he has a few tools in his kit, boxing out his defender and winning a rebound off the endboards to open the scoring. 1-0 Winnipeg.

Cole Perfetti explains his face: "That was an unbelievable pass ... It was one of those ones where you say 'Wow, that was an unbelievable play.'"

This post is unavailable.

Perfetti said he almost did it again in the third period, but the Avs' d-man got a stick on his shot. "I was ready to make another 'wow' face to Scheif (but the d-man) just made a spinning play on it."

Stuart Skinner's biggest takeaway from his first #NHLJets game: "The love from the fans, especially at the beginning there before the anthem, that felt fantastic. The 'Stu' chants around a couple saves, those always feel really good. You can tell how much the fans love it here..." (continued)

"...How much they love their hockey, how much they love their players. So it was a lot of fun. It was great to put on the jersey, it was great to go out on the ice with all these guys in here."

The Winnipeg Jets beat Colorado's travel team 3-1 in preseason action. Stuart Skinner stops 31 of 32 shots, getting the "W" in his first ever game in a Jets jersey, while Winnipeg gets goals from Gabriel Vilardi, Cole Perfetti, and Dylan DeMelo to seal the win.

Cole Perfetti with the cool, calm, collected finish of a Mark Scheifele tap-in. Made a face that I imagine said, "oh THIS is what it's like to be set up by No. 55"

Another great feed from Scheifele to Perfetti in tight. I think it may have hit a stick -- not sure -- but this time Perfetti's attempt goes over the net.

And Dylan DeMelo claps back for the #NHLJets, firing a wrist shot from the top of the circles that will count. Can you believe the power of the coach's challenge? Can you believe the preseason momentum? It's 3-0 Winnipeg.

Stuart Skinner upset with the Avs' goal, hoping for goaltender interference, so the #NHLJets challenge the play. If it counts, the blast through traffic will cut Winnipeg's lead to 2-1.
