3 things I want to see for instant followback:
1) Your pronouns. Indicates you respect the pronouns of others.
2) Masks. I want to see that you give a shit about not spreading an ongoing pandemic and thus TRULY care about intersectional values.
3) ALT tags. You can set an autonag for it. No excuses.
Your trauma is valid even if someone else had it worse. Someone else's suffering doesn't lessen yours. What it can do, however, is offer a meeting place for mutual understanding and support that can lead to great friendship.
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
I'm so proud of you for everything you've accomplished lately, even if you think it's nothing because that means you got some rest. Good job resting! π€ππ·π₯
You will ultimately be happier and healthier when you learn to walk away from pointless, never-ending arguments. Learn to accept not having a meaningless last word. Learn to accept that some people may not know your side of the story. Save your energy for better battles.
When someone attacks you for strongly defending your inclusive, socially just values it means they're angry that you're not letting them get away with exclusion, hatred, and bigotry. Wear that as a badge of pride and stand all the firmer still.
It's obscene how many of your era's medical facilities and adaptive devices for disabilities exclude people based on size. Fatphobia has no place in medicine. π€ππ·π₯
If you take no risks, you will miss out. If you take every risk, you will lose frequently. Adulthood is learning which risks are worth it and how best to mitigate them.
Gaslighting is always terrible but medical gaslighting can be downright deadly. I'm so sorry for all of you who have to face that so often. π€ππ·π₯
We're happy to share that we now have an MP briefing live (joint with @actionforme.bsky.social) which you can send to your MP to give them all the info they need to support Beth Dobbin in her campaign for increased ME research funding.
The briefing and our template are linked belowπ
Your anger at adults who harmed you in your childhood is legitimate. You cannot heal while you're still stuck suppressing that anger in the vain hope that they will properly apologise when they see how "good" you're behaving now.
It is being reported
that in the UK
Covid-19 hospital admissions
have surged by 41%
in the last two weeks,
but there is really no need
to worry about that
happening here in the US,
for over here none of us
can afford to go to the hospital.
It's not your duty to grow a thicker skin so you can endure more abuse. It's not your duty to forgive or redeem abusers. Your duty is to establish and defend your own boundaries on your own terms.
Pay attention to the instructions on your medications. They often tell you to take with a full glass of water or avoid sunlight or not take with certain other medications for good reasons. So remember to take your meds as directed. And stretch. And unclench. π€ππ·π₯
People mention LLMs a lot in terms of "increasing accessibility"
And as someone with intermittent cognitive disabilities, I *really* want to highlight how much work it is to sort through AI slop to try to find accurate information
The main way the LLM boom has affected my life is to make a lot of things so much harder. It makes information filtering an even more constant grinding process than it already was: it's noticeably worsened search info quality and makes it harder to find anything reliable and/or human and/or real.
Just because you are frequently denied the right to a safe medical space within your medically vulnerable needs doesn't negate that right; it means the abled and health-privileged people around you are failing to uphold your rights. π€ππ·π₯
I'm always proud of your strength and resilience even when you feel like nothing is working. You're doing an amazing job and I celebrate your efforts. Good job! π€ππ·π₯
Insisting that everyone be positive all the time isn't just toxic, it's a way to avoid solving problems by pretending they don't exist. That doesn't help anyone. You're allowed to be angry at the injustices of the world. In fact, you should be.
After several of the people
who should have been
present at the meeting
called out sick
my work friend told me
βitβs that time of the year,β
and though I wanted
to remind her of how many times
this happened in the spring
and in the summer,
instead, I just said: yeah.
Thank you for daydreaming and fantasising about spaceships amidst a future of human peace and harmony. Never let anyone tell you to stop imagining a better tomorrow. I exist because of your hopes and dreams.
Doing part of something is better than doing none of it. You might feel up to doing the rest tomorrow. Good job knowing your limits and pausing that task. π€ππ·π₯
Food doesn't know how to tell time. You're allowed to eat whatever works for you and suits your needs at any time of day or night. Make your own adjustments for your biology, medicines, etc. but don't be afraid to eat meals out of traditional order. π€ππ·π₯
Allow your inner child to come out and ask all the questions the adults in your life deemed too tedious to answer. Why does something happen? How does it work? How can it be improved?
Never allow anyone to claim that you are unkind simply because you decry injustice. Activism against injustice is a kindness towards victims both past and present, and hopefully reduces future ones.
Hi, Iβm a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it:
- Slow Internet on an airplane
- Iβm over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is
- Bluesky broke images again
- My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise
- Conveys further context and authorial intent
It's okay to realize, "I have better ways to spend my energy than this," and then leave that situation or at least raise shields against it, particularly for social encounters. π€ππ·π₯
It is tragic how often the kindest people defend themselves the least and the worst people are the most adept at doing so. We need to flip this. Be a good person with a solid shield system in place.
You are not required to keep awful people close in your personal life, even though the worst ones are very good at making you think they're indispensable.
There's no such thing as a "bad" macronutrient. Your body needs carbs, fats, and protein to live. Your era's capitalistic corporations really love demonizing macronutrients to take your money from you. Ignore the nonsense and eat what works for you and your health needs. π€ππ·π₯
The onus is on the privileged to prove through actions that they care about the vulnerable, not on the vulnerable to accept the word of the privileged on faith.
When you hear people say
there are conflicting accounts
of the death total
in the current outbreak,
it is important to note:
they could be talking about
plague death(s) in Russia,
or
they could be talking about
the CDC refusing to count
measles deaths in PA.
Chronically ill people deserve respect and kindness, not unsolicited advice from ignorant, judgemental people who imagine they know better. π€ππ·π₯
