2025 was a phenomenal year for anime, with absolute gems in just about every genre. In no particular order as usual, here are my favorite 10 shows from this year.

I'm not much of a Pokémon person, but my son is & trying to buy him cards at retail prices has been nigh on impossible the last couple of years, and I refuse to pay scalpers for anything. So it warms the cockles of my heart to see so many of them having a full meltdown about the recent set. Enjoy!!

Lies of P ending has one of the best stinger sequel tease I've seen in video games.

Spent the weekend in Chicago. A thread of the best things I ate. Avli - Kataifi shrimp and grilled octopus. The shrimps had a super thin thread coating that was light and crunchy, great with the thyme aioli. The octopus was so tender and the skordalia served with it was out of this world.

The Village - Shrimps Tuscany. Lightly breaded shrimps broiled in sun dried tomatoes, onions, pancetta, and basil butter. A classic dish perfected.

[BONUS] Ramen Ray - Miso ramen. Lunch in Indianapolis on the drive home. Found a place run by a lady from Hokkaido, so I knew the miso ramen would be legit. Savory and hearty, comfort in a bowl.

Avec - Medjool dates stuffed with chorizo and wrapped in bacon, in a chili pepper tomato sauce. Sweet, fatty, and acidic. An unexpected combination that works very well together.

Yummy Yummy Noodles - Beef noodle soup with wontons. Brisket, shank, and tendon chunks slow cooked to melt-in-your-mouth. And a soy broth base that has a herbal aroma and lightly sweet after-taste. The giant shrimp wontons don't hurt either.

America often gets dunked on (rightfully) for being excessive when it comes to food but every now and then Japan says hold my beer and put 3 doggone eggs on a KFC sandwich.

These are two official promotional art for the same show.

Pho Bo 24 hours chicken stock with spices, rice noodles with rare sliced tenderloin, bean sprouts, cilantro, green onion, and basil. If I can only eat one food for the rest of my life this is probably what I would pick.

This man has worked tirelessly for over two decades across 4 console generations. A Company Man still punching in after a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. When will he get his due from Sony?

Watching The Odyssey. An hour in and so far it's mostly very recognizable men grunting and exerting, occasionally an equally recognizable woman is shown with a disapproving look.

Movie's decent, bloated. Odysseus's journey felt fragmented, lacking weight. The homecoming final act is much more substantial. A satisfying payoff to its set up at the beginning.

Called a hotel in Chicago downtown to ask about parking and it's SIXTY-SEVEN AMERICAN DOLLARS PER NIGHT to self-park at an off-site lot. Wtf is going on up there?

This is how I feel every time I turn on the tv at a hotel but without fail in less than 15 minutes I would remember that's just not the case.

This post is unavailable.

I'm watching 21 broadcasting anime shows everyday from exactly 8:00pm to 10:00pm and that's objectively better than channel jumping between Food Network and SyFy.

Goodbye Lara is a reimagined classic fairy tale and it sticks to certain core themes that are evergreen, like royalty being lazy good for nothing bums.

東坡肉 Dong Po Rou Large pork belly squares slow braised until melt-in-your-mouth tender and covered in a thick sweet soy sauce. Absolutely divine.

Season 5 of The Boys have been even more crammed with terrible Whedon-speak than previous seasons (high bar), but this one I gotta hand it to 'em.

Mari's got coolness in spades, in no small part thanks to all the boxing cuts animated by Hidehiko Sawada. There's space for technical aspects like the noticeable weight shifts, but also for elastic exaggeration... without overdoing it, so it ultimately still reads like very skilled students

Even among fairy tale princesses, The Little Mermaid is a romantic among romantics, yearning for an idealized love in a different world. Sayonara Lara takes that idea and runs with it: of course she'd crush catastrophically bad for a handsome girl the second that she casually says she likes her

And following the same directions in reverse for the drive back. Kids today could never.

people talk a lot about pre/post-internet microgenerations but let me hear from all the others in my microgeneration, the “printing maps off Mapquest” microgeneration.
