I'm working on a platform fighting game where you make your own character, picking all their moves etc. I'm not programming, but I'm doing nearly all the 3D work and animation that's why art has been so slow. o7

I think I figured out how the rim-light shader in #Deadlock works! Basically you take the depth buffer twice (or thrice in this case), offset one by a certain amount in screen position, and then divide one by the other. Do this diagonally twice, one left and the other right, for both sides.

The result is that areas of higher contrast divide into a lower value (closer to black), creating a contrast mask you can use in a post-process effect to blend your rimlight color over the base image. I can share the node setup once I have it more finalized! still need to scale based on distance

in deadlock I found out they're not doing the rimlight in post process but it does seem that the general principle is the same, using depth buffer information to derive the rimlight.

if NetEase was developing Deadlock, every convo with Violet would be like "Violet.... When my family was being slaughtered in north ixia, your paintings were so inspiring, they helped me pull through that despair. Thank you."

can someone make a blender plugin that puts cobwebs and dust on the screen when opening files that haven't been modified in a while?

I think i fumbled by making tomo actually look like a Martian rather than just being a girl painted green with antennae. The people aren't ready for a REAL alien girl

I love dark souls 2 seamless co-op but I HATE that they put their damn politics in it. I mean seriously, forcing your ideology on players? Radial dead zones should NOT be on by default, axial dead zones are part of the game's design and the option to change them to radial shouldn't be the default!

jokes about politics aside lol I genuinely don't think radial dead zones make the game better, arguably worse because they went with DS1-style dead zones which make it nearly impossible to move in a straight line on pad. Even ER has axial dead zones and it feels so much better to walk in than DS1/3
