the Jarvis Cocker of the Chicago lit scene

I am reading my poem The Lifeguard in the shower in a remake of Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho where Janet Leigh read my poem The Lifeguard in the shower. This poem is in my book HAIR SHIRT available from @malarkeybooks.bsky.social. Get it at IWANTMYHAIRSHIRT.com

It's Halloween week! It's also the anniversary month of my two @malarkeybooks.bsky.social titles, which both happen to be firmly in the Horror genre, among other subgenres. If you like Romance in your Horror, Hell portals, demons, cryptids... give one or both of these a shot! Order links below ⬇️

"Listen, Nonbinary Gxrfield. Just because you're nonbinary doesn't mean you're like... tapped into the spirit realm." "It kind of does." is going to be banging around in my head for years.

Happy 105th birthday to the Chicago Theatre

I've lived in the Chicago area nearly my whole life and I still can't keep the highway names straight. The Kennedy? The Dan Ryan? No clue, man.

Did an accidental Mason Thames double feature last night pairing Nimrods and Idiots. Both really great road movies. Nimrods about a high school punk band pranked into thinking they're going to open for Green Day. Idiots about two dummies escorting a sociopathic rich kid to rehab.

We have some incredible books in the pipeline. One that I’m especially excited about is Pretty Joey Ross by @patricknevins.bsky.social. Have a look at the cover by @johnchrostek.com and preorder a signed copy while you’re at it! malarkeybooks.com/store/pretty...

All this discourse about The Cheesecake Factory but no one is talking about how its founder was in a cult and using restaurant profits to build the cult's gaudy compound in California

Originally published by Eye Cult Attic, @jonmcconn.bsky.social’s novel, thrum, has been out of print. We’re reissuing it under our Death of Print imprint next month, with a new cover and layout. Just 7 signed copies are left! malarkeybooks.com/store/thrum

The 2027 book club is open. You’ll end up with six books, most if not all signed by the author, plus a few zines and the knowledge that you’re keeping Malarkey going! malarkeybooks.com/store/bookcl...

I heard there was a secret mash That turned into a graveyard smash But you don't really care for monsters, do you?

It was pretty perfect to have Takashi Miike direct a Ryu Murakami book adaptation.

I could really go for a nice glass of whiskey.

I just got this insane weight loss ad featuring an AI Kelly Clarkson selling a vinegar and baking soda shot that would "dry you out" and shed weight in your sleep. This has to be some kind of infringement.

I'm tired of experiencing everyone's insecurities. Especially my own.

I've always wondered if any of the Psycho sequels were any good. I swear I watched Psycho 2 or 3 at a sleepover but I can't imagine we were paying close attention.

Broke 10k today. Never managed that before.

Found a decapitated squirrel head on the walk this morning. Cool omen, bro.

Not the Kochs fucking something else up!

What East of Eden has to say on the subject.

Last night I dreamt they made a new Friday the 13th where they sent Jason to Australia to kill people camping in the outback.
