Lightning strikes detected by the Blitzortung network from 2150 UTC 12 Aug to 2030 UTC 13 Aug (~23 hours) over Honshu, remarkably long lived multiple thunderstorm rounds. Chiba labelled at start where "unprecedented" rains occurred, level 5 emergency was issued and tragically at least 8 died.

Sentinel-2 caught this view this morning of the fires in central Greece of the Xironomi wildfire - fades to heat sigs, images Copernicus Browser. The fire to the east appears to be approaching Ag. Vasilios, is this the town that lead to evacuation by sea?

Heat signatures from the Dunwich Heath wildfire in Suffolk, England are being picked up by the Meteosat-12 satellite over 36,000 km away.

Meteosat-12 is detecting many large fires across the Aegean region as the northerly wind surge continues. Including in Türkiye, near Biga, Kumgedik, SW of Bozdogan and Greek islands Andros, Kalymnos, Paros and on Crete from the Asomatos and Rethymno wildfires

Several #wildfires are growing rapidly this afternoon in western #Türkiye and on #Crete as a dangerous northerly wind surge builds in the Aegean Sea that looks to last for a several days. Two here in SW Türkiye were seen this afternoon by Aqua MODIS.
