Hire me as an MLB manager you cowards!!!

First and third no outs, up one - you play double play depth and concede the run. Corners in…fine. But you don’t have a strike out pitcher on the mound. Play for continuing extra innings at that point.

So the prompt is for parents to build up their kids apparently. When I did that with my eldest as a 10 year old by saying she was very responsible she sighed and was like “ya dad…I know”

dr zach@zachlev.bsky.social

I’m still so confused why a teacher would ask that of me as a parent. I’d be like: you figure it out.

Yesterday, while coaching her and others at curling, I complimented the shot she made and she said, knowingly in front of other parents “thanks for finally giving me positive feedback”. She would see through this “talk up your kid” schtick.

Once again I’m urging legal scholars to stop using the term Calvinball. The history of “the rule of law” has shown us its contingent and contested.

Getting up in arms about El-Sayed’s response on border security is bizarre. He outlined how security isn’t achieved (ie via ICE). Why do assume secure borders looks one way? Like saying we need Safe Schools - it’s often co-opted by get tough rhetoric but it’s a vague term that is fluid.

I don’t think it has more power it just has different contours. The SCC can and has struck down laws. They are unelected. But the Charter, as a living document, means they develop logical tests for lower courts to apply & follow. SCOTUS seems to be akin to judicial gerrymandering - work backwards

🎃 Imani Gandy Corn 🎃@angryblacklady.blacksky.app

The Supreme Court in our country—and a lot of people who live here don’t understand this—has more power than any other high court in any other advanced democracy. We know the justices’ names. Most educated people can name at least a couple. 3/4

There also seem to be no limits on who can be on SCOTUS as long as they pass what appears to be a mostly political/partisan vote. In Canada, there are higher expectations of judges laid out in legislation and an independent advisory board conducts a review.

So there are definitely things that make America exceptional - not sure it’s the power it can wield. Canada used to have an independent Law Reform Commission to help governments construct legislation that would pass Charter challenges. And we’d never think to have elections for judges at any level.

Or, more likely, Stuff+ is a malleable metric that has too many moving parts but god knows we should try to bulldoze an analysis using it for a sub population of players (ie those in the playoffs currently) rather than back off of it any time soon.

Re: math proofs The field *knows* the rule exists (or it hasn’t been disproven) It’s not a stretch to think AI is finding the proof because that’s what we expect to hear. But if reading the said proof is incomprehensible to mathematicians…it’s not a proof and just more sycophantic behaviour.

The Munk School should be so lucky to have his expertise at their students’ disposal! Diversity of thought!!!

Mike Pompeo has been rewarded with a teaching fellowship at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. The same school that canceled my class on media, race and international affairs. @columbiasipa.bsky.social share.google/KEvTy5yER71U...

Absolutely hilarious because we know the failings of that argument in other contexts. I don’t think electing a different president is changing things. Sure the tariffs will be gone, but the potential for another Mad King without functioning checks and balances means we have to remain on guard.

I get the critique of the original post.I guess I’m amazed to hear the “not all Americans” line.

The wine institute of California?

Meanwhile, some departments at my university are forging partnerships for dual degrees with CU.

More on class-action suit against Columbia which my daughter is part of, including the news-to-me that CU (in the shameful tradition) actually hired Pinkerton thugs to crush their students’ peaceful protest. www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2026/09...

Please tell us Canadians more about what mandate really means in the American context. This poll appears to be an outlier because it’s polling registered voters but with all that is going on down there and still this much support? US is an unstable ally even if Trump is deposed.

Sahil Kapur@sahilkapur.bsky.social

New NBC News poll Trump approval: 41% Generic ballot: 50% D, 45% R On handling the economy, voters prefer Ds by 1 point. (In Oct 2018 they preferred Rs on the economy by 15 pts.) 30% say they’re more likely to vote for aTrump endorsee; 52% less likely. www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...

The Vanderbilt report people keep saying that woke humanists say ’there is no objectivity.’ This is a laughably inaccurate rendering of what humanities research has empirically shown: that there IS ‘objectivity’; it is a historically specific epistemology; and it competes w other ways of knowing.

New: Students suing Columbia for its response to a library demonstration last year. Student Jessie Rubin recalls officers "shouting racist & homophobic epithets while guards put their hands around students’ necks, slammed participants into the ground, & dragged their bodies across the stone floor."

“Refusing to even engage with Canada’s perspective” is also related to the brouhaha over the use of the term mandate.

Pwnallthethings@pwnallthethings.bsky.social

A big thing WaPo's Ed Board is missing here is that the *WaPo Ed Board specifically* writing stuff like "Out of spite for President Donald Trump ..." is *part of why* Canada is responding the way it is. Major US papers refusing to even engage with Canada's perspective is itself part of the hedge

Apparently it was an AfD neonazi who tried to preempt PM Carneys speech with a "USA USA!" chant, which should probably tell you just about everything you need to know about both the AfD and the current state of the USA.

Farrukh@implausibleblog.bsky.social

Just before Mark Carney delivered his speech at the European Parliament One MEP shouted out, "USA, USA" He replies with laughter and, "Alors" While other MEPS groan My take follows.

Trump didn’t get a mandate! I scream out loud making all Canadians everywhere suddenly feel so much better about everything that’s going on down south.

dr zach@zachlev.bsky.social

I do think the point of the OP is one that doesn’t seem to being addressed - it is more than trump that Canadians are leery about. I don’t know if he’s right or wrong but I guess we can quibble over what mandate means

It's really no different from all these big name law firms and attorneys getting caught filing hallucinated cases. It's us. It was always us.

That million dollar math proof and AI story is wild but it captures the way AI exists As a computing aid that has more power and resources than ever. In which case, it isn’t AI. As a thief that uses those resources to steal other people’s ideas and present it as novel.

Hey friends, I have some fantastic news: you do not have to wait until utopia to celebrate small victories Not only is it OK to feel joy even if the world has not been fixed, it's really important to do so. You will burn yourself out and lose the ability to help us get to a better world
