Ok, so real talk... I've been doing a fuck ton of suppressing myself these last 6-ish years These past few months I've been getting back to myself. TL;DR: trauma, grief, suppression of self. COVID isolation didn't help things, but by that point I had already isolated myself anyway. 1/3

Real talk: Monday morning after a weekend of highs carries a similar shape to 'post con depression' (PCD) On the back of therapy Sunday, I caught myself ruminating on interactions and the anxiety that comes with that. I am working on multiple things, but self judgement has been a recent focus.

Contrast to me going out with 3x different LED gear on Saturday, (X Harness with Collar, hockey mask, staff) with 3d print dog tags to hand out at the event, (glow in dark filaments) in partial suit with street clothes, it's likely the highest 'visibility' feeling I felt in a while.

The night was good, the energy was high, I walked to the empty dance floor in my full kit and started spinning until a couple others joined in. I put the stick away after that for opening up the space for others. Mostly spent time at the booth, handing out tags, some social aspects, general vibing.

I have a lot of body image issues, which shows up in the way I think/feel others view me. Wearing the suit helps, to some extent, yet there remains this sense of being visible but invisible at the same time. Translated to a question of partial vs full-suit, I lean more towards wanting full cover.

New holder soldered on seems solid. Has wire leads instead of direct to board, so there's a little flexibility in getting everything inside the TPU holder before sliding it into the handle. So far so good! Will see how the weekend goes. PDX parking garage roof with planes in the background?

Metrik - Synchronise A bit of technical difficulty recording at the convention center last night. The foil fix is no longer a fix. I had to put in an actual fix. Tpu enclosure to keep the battery holder contacts in place under compression. Do over tonight. #furry #fursuit #flowarts

Moda Center, Convention Center, maybe even PDX cause apparently you can film on the 7th floor of the parking garage but not in the main terminal proper. Will see where the night leads. Pretty sure the TPU housing fix is the one. I made a whole internal holder that slides inside the handle. :3

Engineering has identified the failure point of the last break to be a problem of my own making. I added this fillet to reinforce this joint, but neglected to add enough clearance in the cap to accommodate, creating a sharp compression at the top of the fillet. (OpenSCAD) Fresh cap is printing. <3

Test fix: Added a step pocket inside the cap to not interfere with the fillet. (Might round it off later) Will see how it holds up to a similar hard twirl + drop in regular use. It should allow the fillet to spread the load on impacts versus it being concentrated at the top like it was. <3

Prior, someone asked me if my stick was for flow walking passed each other. I got very excited and they said they also use staff and asked to see mine. I shared and said it is all custom and I've never held a real one so idk what the commercial ones are like. They said it feels different. <3

Everyone is different. Building what works for yourself is the point. I found furry in 2014 and went to my first con that same year. I had a fullsuit in time for that same con the following year because I wanted that experience. More cons followed from there into 2017 when things slowed down.

My original suit head had got damaged and my friends pitched in to get a new one made for me. I had found a partner and I had gotten a house and I thought I was doing the things that I was supposed to be doing. Yet, by what standard? The road behind me has decisions that were not made for me.

Battery holder has had some abuse since it's a personal build. Issue is that top + contact loses connection momentarily from rotation, resetting the controller. I think a bonus 3d printed box around the battery holder in general to give it a little extra compression. Foil is working for now. :P

That darkness period for me was survival. A focus on work and career and being able to provide for myself that came at a cost of close relationships. Because it was drilled in to us that working hard to get ahead was the best way forward. So when I shut down that became my default. 2/3
