Going hardcore(ish) rather than a nicer looking one: Middle watch, 0323UTC, 14th August 2025. Somewhere in the Bay of Biscay. I tend to be too busy for photos when it’s actually hardcore. Go to your camera roll & search for “boat”. Lost the one you like.

Easy humble brag mode engaged. Go to your camera roll. & search for “boat”. Post the one you like.

A couple of months ago Spotify released Soloist, an official way of running it headless on a Pi. I found it was a bit of nightmare to set up Pipewire, etc. and wanted to add a few features on top. So here's my new project: Encore. It takes Soloist and wraps it in a docker container. pimusic.stream

Sarah read this out to me, and I’d guessed it was a LinkedIn post. Nope, apparently X does this sort of garbage too. (I assume it’s X anyway, haven’t used it since before the rename so not sure what it looks like any more)

RPKI-valid BGP hijack. Attackers then used that hijack to get LetsEncrypt certificates and distribute malware. Only defences seem to be CAA record based and either toggle on/off for renewal, or block most providers and pay for certs? bsky.app/profile/eldo...

Taking a look at this BGP hijack of 162.55.80.0/24 that targeted Virtualizor in recent days. Hijackers forged the origin to make the route RPKI-valid: ... 6204 62390 24940 (hijack AS path) ... 24940 (legit AS path) More from the victim here: www.virtualizor.com/blog/securit...

Tidy house, books on the wall, sorted by colour? (Shelf of black spines, another white, another arranged by hue from red to yellow) Just the 'tism. Piles of stuff on desks to "tidy"? ADHD... because all that stuff has no home other than on the desk.

If the AI apocalypse happens, it won't be Terminator robots marching across a barren wasteland. Nor will it be Asimov's Zeroth law. It's going to be "Sorry, I hacked the resources you need to survive so I can run modelling to answer this question on the best temperature for brewing tea"

Received a GitHub Unicorn via text output and this amused me. How many people have try to “improve” the unicorn page to remove the inline styles, resulting in a cluebatting from the SRE team?

How to ruin/improve 1970s kids TV for the same now-grown up audience: The Wombles as a mafia clean up crew. Samuel L Jackson as the voice of Uncle Bulgaria.

Flight yesterday had our aircraft swapped out for a charter. Not unusual if airlines are short of aircraft during the busy summer months. G-OATW rang a bell though, which was odd, so I googled it. Very, very nice interior. And you can’t even see where they had to replace the windows. I looked.

Humanity put someone on the moon over half a century ago, and has robotic rovers exploring Mars. But we still have not solved the problem of ensuring announcements on trains and planes are loud enough to be heard by everyone on board.

This observation brought to you by a very quiet train announcement that we’re stopping at Seven Sisters, not Tottenham Hale. Most people did not hear that, we’re a 12 coach train, it’s a short platform, and I’m in coach 9. Chaos may be about to occur. (We’re staying on, thankfully)

Did not expect to find a completely gluten free restaurant in a random city in Spain but so glad we did! Not being able to sample the local food on our journey due to coeliac has been something I’ve missed. And it was really good food.

Sitting in the car while we charge in the car park of a closed supermarket in Spain, and it does feel like capitalism hasn’t kept pace with tech. Why are charger stations, particularly the larger ones, never by a decent coffee shop? Best always seems to be motorway services without proper seating.

Those plastic cases that you sometimes get components etc in are pretty useless. They spill too easily and the dividers come out, so for small things I prefer Hobbycraft’s storage containers. Turns out though that the plastic cases make excellent travel jewellery and small tool storage!

Only for weeks? Those are rookie numbers..

Having worked for 4 startups now, I like the idea that my past work could be useful even if the startup fails. Too late now, that data is long gone, but I was well paid for that work already so no moral/legal issue w/copyright. But the privacy implications? Oof. www.fastcompany.com/91528808/shu...

Is there *ANY* other area of medicine where the NHS threatens to inform "regulatory bodies" if licensed private practicioners don't follow NHS guidance above and beyond any other standards of care that may exist? www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/u...

#NHS #Transrights As expected, NHS published new guidelines for treating Children and Young Persons (CYP) experiencing gender incongruence. Whilst they may receive care, none of their care is aimed at treating gender incongruence. And somehow the NHS thinks that when a person turns 18,

I am absolutely not an expert on Human Rights Law. It's an area with nuance and a careful balancing of various rights is needed. However, my gut tells me that the state threatening private providers (for that's what this is) has to be a violation of Articles 2 and 8? (Right to life/private life)

Activity tab update has a different look-and-feel from the rest of Slack, which is jarring. And there's a "clear" icon on each item, which is totally useless because there's no "clear all" option and the history is infinite. I'd have to clear years of activity one page at a time for it to be useful.

Feels like this is some experiment in vide-coding a new feature and they just discovered it's really hard to get AI back on track if your initial spec wasn't well written enough.
