Same old blues, just a different day. World’s okayest tailgater, LSU alum, amateur cook, bad fly fisherman, aspiring endurance sport idiot. Chances are I’ve given you a beer and a plate of food. Views are mine. YNWA. #DVATailgating

Ran for the first time since Chicago this morning (finally) and I listened to Stevie Ray Vaughan on the way in to work, I am a genuine menace to society this morning.

IF THE HOUSE IS A-ROCKIN’, DON’T BOTHER KNOCKIN’, IF THE HOUSE IS A-ROCKIN’, DON’T BOTHER KNOCKIN’, IF THE HOUSE IS A-ROCKIN’, DON’T BOTHER, COME ON INNNNNN

I feel really bad for the lady walking down the aisle above the dugout trying to pitch the Rays’ 50/50 raffle right now, that’s gotta be a rough job when the vibe is this rancid.

Got my first good night of sleep in two weeks yesterday, it’s over for y’all. I don’t know who “y’all” is in this context, but rest assured, it’s over for them.

Back home from a fun weekend in the Auburn-Opelika micropolitan area, and the way things went only reinforced my belief that college football (and the activities and connections that occur in/around it) has become my church.

Glad that gas stations are now carrying Liquid Death’s energy drinks, which contain the perfect amount of caffeine (i.e. one cup of coffee per can) for my normie ass when I miss my usual coffee window. Tremendous.

Got to spend the day doing one of my favorite things with a bunch of people I love, just in a different city. There was also a football game. Thankful I know all these folks and grateful that I get to do this.

Wait a minute

Home chefs + home cooking tools are better and more widely available now than they’ve ever been and it’s not particularly close

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Three weeks later and we’re right back here again.

Laying on an acupressure mat for half an hour the night before my fourth tailgate in five weeks, like an aging QB trying to prolong his career with any and every tool available to him.

It’s still very weird coming back home to New Orleans and seeing billboards for area Catholic schools now that we’re in recruitment season. Like yeah it’s not weird if you grew up with it, but it’s weird with the benefit of a couple decades’ worth of distance.

Truck is loaded up, just need to pack a bag, and for the first time in three years I get to play this song and say AUBURN, WE’RE COMIN TO YOUR CIT-AYYYYYYY

Haven’t made a football road trip since 2023 when we cooked at Druid City, haven’t been to a road game since 2022, I feel a decade younger already (I do not actually feel a decade younger).

Sixth trip to Auburn is this weekend. That got me thinking, of all the away trips I’ve made, I’ve been to Florida the next-most (three times), then Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee twice each. I attended my first college football game as a freshman in college. Pretty neat!

2010 Arkansas: Karnell Hatcher committing targeting on Morris Claiborne (they were teammates), leading to an Arkansas TD, this was also the band trip we blew meal money on some Sock ‘Em Boppers so we could box in our hotel rooms (band kids are dumb as hell, never forget this).

2013: walking out Sanford with Georgia fans after an absolute fucking bonkers game and going “hey that was awesome we should do that more often”

2017 Tennessee: getting militantly drunk in a Knoxville parking lot at 10:30 AM the first game of the Brady Hoke interim era, the second half kickoff occurred in what can best be described as “a dishwasher,” we couldn’t see it and neither could the TV cameras.

2008 Florida: Brandon Spikes housed a Jarrett Lee pick six and immediately punted the ball into the stands, it’s the funniest thing I’ve seen in a football game to this day.

It’s always interesting when I talk to people where this stuff is basically genetic, I was more of the “go to LSU and do band, figure out the rest later” type.

A random assortment of memories from various away games: 2022 Florida, entering the Swamp at twilight while Learning to Fly by Tom Petty played over the PA. We’d had a great tailgate and made lots of friends, I experienced a moment of college nirvana during those few minutes.

Dudes love stopping at Walmart with their silly little reusable grocery bag for a rotisserie chicken and some odds and ends after work.

Just caught a deal on a smart trainer for my bike, and the shop I ordered it from has a banner proclaiming “Now Accepting Crypto!” so I’m gonna be a little worried until I get word that it’s shipped.

I prefer feeling pain outdoors and in the context of doing cardio rather than lifting (I am getting better about this), also I work an 8-5 job and like carbs.

I am particularly averse to This Bullshit™️ because lots of people are doing the most they possibly can with the time and resources they have, and asking rhetorically “what the fuck is YOUR EXCUSE?” is just another way of making people feel like they aren’t doing enough, and that happens too often.

It’s especially true in any personal journey, but especially in fitness: it’s not about the end result, it’s about the person you become along the way. Show me someone who sees that Hemsworth picture and goes “YEAH BRO THAT’S RIGHT BRO” and I’ll show you the most insecure person in the world.
