The USA's biggest tourism market just disappeared. Canadian vehicle crossings dropped for the first time since the pandemic. 48% of Canadians say they're less likely to visit in 2025. Billions in tourism dollars are likely staying in Canadian communities instead this year. 1/3 👇👇

You raise a real concern since Tourism is an export product. I think there will be some who skip Canada. Probably not to the same degree as Canadians skipping US visits. We'll probably see bumps from Asia, Europe and maybe South America in 2025 - but will it be enough to replace US visitors?

Don't forget that the Canadians who decide not to vacation in the USA will probably still be taking vacations, most likely to Canadian destinations. Which number is larger, Canadians vacationing in the USA, or Americans vacationing in Canada?

That is the big question. We won't know until we know. I suspect fewer Americans will cancel Canadian trips vs. the opposite. However, one important note is that US tourism to CAN is technically an export product.

Aren’t all protectionist schemes just a race to the bottom? That said i agree that the people in supporting DT are a minority. And that a huge swath of Americans disagree and probably want to support Canada. So re American tourists, it may actually be a wash. Until we have stats we just won’t know.

I don't think I've bought Canadian beer since I was in my 20s. But on my beer run today, I decided to buy some to show support for our loyal friends to the north. My next move is to figure out which beers come from red states and cross them off my shopping list. Their voters f**ked us!

The data tells the story: - Canadians made 20.4M US visits last year - 25% of Florida's international visitors were Canadian - Billions in US tourism $$$ are ready for reinvestment in Canadian workers and businesses Tourism operators are adapting w/ new international and domestic ads + products.

The Outdoor Adventure show was on in Toronto this weekend. My observation was that there seemed to be far less interest in the booths advertising American vacation destinations than there was in booths advertising vacations pretty much anywhere else.

Interesting - and probably a good reminder for many folks that we've got awesome destinations in our own province/country. Which US destinations were there? Florida had a whole pavilion at the Distillery District Winter Village this year - I bet they're kicking themselves on that ad spend now.
