the shrine to victims of road violence
Sometime between early Sunday evening and Monday morning, a shrine to victims of road violence was erected at Tom Riley Park This parking lot has been the central meeting point for the protests about the removal of the Bloor bike lanes in Etobicoke. The first…
I have a small package being shipped to me. It took three days to go halfway around the world. So far, it's taken a week to cross the city, and it hasn't finished the trip yet!
Given the normal package routing, I suspect my package has spent the last week within 10km of me!
It was The Ontario Science Centre. Without the science dept it's now the Ontario Centre. The province will soon push to sell it off, reducing it to just The Centre. The new owner will then demolish the buildings to put up condos, leaving nothing left.
Where is the outrage when two pedestrians are killed when a driver runs a red light and strikes them on a sidewalk?
So far, none of our elected officials have said a word.

I joined during the pandemic when people couldn’t help themselves.
Post pandemic, food security is still something many in Toronto are fight for every day.
If you can, come and volunteer. If you can’t help spread the word throughout #BikeTO

A 15-year study of bike lanes shows that they have no negative impact on business. Neighborhoods that embraced bike lanes showed a measurable increase in foot traffic.

A really good question from @steinberg.nu

One of the reasons why the ongoing meltdown about Zohran asking people to set their A/C to 78 bothers me is that it seems to be a symptom of post-COVID unwillingness for individuals to do anything for the common good, and if we don’t have that we’re in a very bad place as a society.
Here's something to keep in mind...
All this AI stuff is programs running on computers.
Computers are based on silicon.
Silicon is refined from sand.
Sand is just ground up rocks.
So your average AI is just barely more sentient than your average rock.
This is something I would very much like to see. Since you already need to periodically renew your driver's license, I would make the renewal conditional on passing a driving test.
What if you had to take your drivers test at least every 10 years?
A lot changes over time. Including knowledge/memory of the road rules, driver skills and ability, and the size and deadliness of vehicles.
Okay, so I'm two and a half weeks behind, but (ht @timothychambers.net ) this is fantastic and a reminder of why *protocols* matter so much over platforms, no matter what people say about any particular site or service.
3D printer company Bambu Lab went after a small developer for using their own open source code. The blowback was enormous and may have exposed something far more consequential. aftermath.site/bambu-lab-agpl...

American voters, please remember this.
A vote for any Republican is a vote to allow Donald Trump to continue destroying the country with impunity.
Not even at the halfway point in his Term, Donald Trump has done more damage to the USA's reputation than the USSR managed over its entire existence.
Please “go Native.” You’ve heard this phrase. “Welp, he’s gone Native.” Good. That would mean he’s for clean water for all, free housing for all, free medicine for all. Free childcare for all. Free education for all. So, by all means, go Native.
We at @spacing.bsky.social are trying to answer Billy Bishop questions our elected federal and provincial officials are avoiding answering. What would it cost, who will pay, and who benefits? Please read and share with people you know who are asking questions. Post this on neighbourhood lists.
